    1. Re: [MOJACKSO] Obituary Lookup for Edgar Glen McNay
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dgoldy1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.jackson/6216.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Clyde I would suggest the following approach, which will involve a few steps. 1. Use the advanced search feature and search this board for a Key Word of Mid Continent and my Username. Read a few of the hits until you find the link for the Mid Continent Library. Send a request for Nina McNay's obituary. As she died in 1982 her obituary should be in their collection. 2. Contact the cemetery she is buried in and see what if any information they have on a burial for Edgar. Most likely they will have his burial date. 3. Contact the Mid Continent Library again, with Edgar's burial date and maybe they will look in the microfilms for his obituary. Or post the date on line. As you can see by reading through the board, those getting responses to obituary requests have the complete date. Obituaries published in KC in 1971 are not indexed. Most of the major cemeteries in Kansas City MO also do not have published indices. Very few folks, if any will spend the time to search through the microfilms of two daily newspapers(KC TIMES and KC STAR) to find an obituary. The final option is to talk with your library and see if they can interlibrary loan the microfilms for you. There will be one film for each week or partial week. The films will have both the TIMES (mornings six days a week) and the STAR (six evening a week and Sunday). The obituary usually appears only once in one but not both papers. A death notice will appear in the classified section in both papers. The death notice is usually published for 2-3 days after the death is announced, until the day of the funeral.
