Last warm day we had, We walked the Square in Indep., had a malt at Clinton's and toured Woodlawn Cemetery on foot.? Nobody home at JCHS in courthouse but great young tour guide in the old Jailhouse.? What a history lesson after reading Mary Wilcox's Jackson County Pioneers and working on Abuse and Murder on the Frontier by William Bundschu (another old name in our history and in Woodlawn).? Plus reading all old microfilm on my Kelly clan which contain many of the old pioneer names. I found in Woodlawn my ggggrandfather, Harrison Davis, 1789-1849 near McCoy family plot, many Cusenbary's,?my Kellys', John and Polly Ann Davis.? My gguncle Daniel Cusenbary, shot and killed by a?Union soldier in believe October 1863.? Never have found cause of death at age 51 in 1861 of gggrandpa John Kelly, Justice of the Peace in 1860 census, Blue Township.? Plus attorney George W. Buchanan, friend and foe of Kelly.? A son was named George Buchanan Kelly..? Then gggrandma Polly Ann Kellt sued him through J. Brown Hovey for shortfall of over 38 thousand dollars in management of intestate estate of John Kelly.? Interesting lists of notes, property, including slave holdings. In reading depositions, lawsuit, et al on microfilm from Missouri Archives, I find so many notes listed of debts owed by so many old pioneers.? 1850 gunpowder explosion on square in warehouse, Kelly house torn down to stop destruction of square.? Reference is made to warehouses, livery stable of Kelly and Flournoy, eight acres owed in old town Indep, Kelly Mansion (?) near Rock and Lexington plus acreage near Leeds, a farm. My point??? I am so thankful for this heritage and finding it but still looking for more information.? Proud of these strong influences of my ancestors.? I look to find a lot more with the help of so many good folks. Lee Miller (Bob Long)?????? ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together. FYI? The Avila University's library is the Hooley-Bundschu Library.? I have no idea who Hooley and Bundschu were, but Bundschu has to be yours. Avila University is a Catholic university located in southwest Kansas City, MO.? For some strange reason, I could not an e-mail address for the library, but the general address for the university is www.avila.edu.? I am sure you can send an e-mail to this address and ask them to forward it on to the Reference Deks in the library. Happy searching!
