"John A. Brown, superintendent of the cut stone department of the Phenix Marble Company, Kansas City, Mo., died in Kansas City on April 19. Mr. Brown was born in Scotland and came to this country in 1884 and shortly thereafter became connected with the Hughes & Dugan Stone Company of Kansas City. Later he entered into the carving and contracting business on his own account and in 1905 became identified with the Phenix Marble Company in charge of its cut stone department, a position he held up to the time of his death. Mr. Brown was one of the best known stone and marble men in the West and many of the larger and notable buildings of the West and Southwest bear testimony of his craftsmanship. Mr. Brown was a member of the Modern Woodmen, the St. Andrew Society and the Scottish Clan. A widow, a son and two daughters survive." Peggy B.
