Signor BOLLI, who made so good an impression at last Sunday's Philharmonic concert, will sing before the High school pupils the 14th of this month. BOLLI is an Italian. He has a clear, sympathetic baritone voice and in local musical circles he is a favorite. Before coming to America Signor BOLLI sang with Campinini. He will sing a selection from "Macbeth" in the High school entertainment. He will appear in costume and will sing in Italian. Principal BUCHANAN will deliver the prelude, which explains the scene. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Tony WAYWOOD was arraigned in Justice SPITZ's court yesterday charged with stealing $118 worth of furniture from A. JONSKY. It seems that WAYWOOD and JONSKY were formerly partners in a furniture store at 921 East Eighteenth street. JONSKY claims he bought WAYWOOD's interest some time ago. On December 3, WAYWOOD carried a load of mahogany furniture away from the store. JONSKY had him arrested for stealing it. WAYWOOD claims he never sold out his share in the store. Author: JohnWOBrien Surnames: O'BRIEN Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.jackson/6858/mb.ashx Message Board Post: "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Saturday, July 21, 1888 Little Jimmie O'Brien's Death. It is a matter of no great importance to the world that a little boy named Jimmie O'BRIEN died in Cincinnati last night, but the news brought a quiver of the lip to friends in Kansas City. Jimmie O'BRIEN sold "Stars" and blacked shoes and sometimes, on extra busy days worked as a messenger in this office. "Gentleman Jimmy," as he was called, was always bright and tidy, but he quickly reached the limit of his strength and the scarlet in his cheeks betrayed the existence of a wasting disease. As the days passed less and less was seen of him and one day he came into "The Star" office and left his blacking box with the request that it be given to some other boy, for he could never use it again. The work of death was upon the lad. For a few days he was missing. Then he came in to say good bye. He was to go to his old home in Cincinnati and try the best medical skill that his father's limited purse could command. The child knew his fate, and though his faint voice broke as he bade his friends good bye, he was facing death manfully. With his mother and sister he went to Cincinnati and in a few days there came back a letter, in a trembling boyish hand, full of gratitude for little kindnesses that had been shown him, speaking of the approaching end sadly, but with calmness and courage. This morning his father, Thomas O'BRIEN, of 1548 Lafayette street, came into the office to tell, in pitiful grief, that his boy was dead. Jimmy was a little more than 11 years old. He will be buried in Cincinnati, where he was born. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. All day yesterday John O'BRIEN stayed sober. John said in the North Side Court this morning that his inherent gallantry aided him in the struggle. As long as the women of the camera squad remained in the polling places John put the tempters aside. "Divil a drop did I touch until the ladies were gone," O'BRIEN told Judge KENNEDY, "I didn't intend they should see me misbehavin'. But between then and midnight all the boys had a bit too much. I'm glad, though, the whisky didn't get me while the ladies were around." "In consideration of your politeness," Judge Kenney said, "you are discharged." ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo10 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
