    1. Eugene HOWARD - Kansas City, MO - 1899
    2. John O'Brien
    3. "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Tuesday, April 25, 1899 SHE SLEPT TOO LATE. Eugene HOWARD, of 2920 Wyandotte street, went home about 10 o'clock last Saturday morning and found his wife in bed fast asleep. Her laziness angered him and he dragged her out of bed, took the bedstead apart and loaded it into a wagon along with the cook stove and a lot of other furniture. Then he drove downtown and disposed of the furniture and his team and wagon, intending to leave home forever. His wife located him yesterday and had him arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. "I'm guilty, your honor," HOWARD said to Judge BURNHAM, when arraigned in the police court yesterday morning, "but it made me mad when I went home and found the old woman taking a snooze at that time of day. I am not sorry for anything I did. On the contrary I am glad I hauled off the furniture." HOWARD took the matter as a joke and laughed heartily after Judge BURNHAM had assessed a fine of $10 against him. It seemed to please him because his wife was left without a home while he was to be provided for at the workhouse. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

    3. "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Monday, April 24, 1899 SMALLPOX SCARE. People living in the vicinity of Fourteenth and Lydia were treated to a smallpox scare yesterday. Dr. T. C. UNTHANK, who lives at 1416 Lydia avenue, has been attending the WILLIAMS cases in the West bottoms, and yesterday morning was taken down with the disease himself. He telephoned the City Physician COFFIN stating his condition and the police department was notified to quarantine the premises. An officer was on guard for a few hours yesterday morning, but most of the day the house was unguarded. The upper front windows to the UNTHANK house were open and a number of the neighbors, fearing the consequences, called upon Dr. COFFIN last night and asked that the place be quarantined. An officer was immediately sent to the house and a quarantine established. Dr. UNTHANK was removed to the pesthouse last night. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

    3. Shelley I'm sending your message to St. Louis. The only Missouri William Behrend & family shows up in St. Louis, married 25 yr old, in 1910 & family man in 1920. Wife Sarah?, daughter Altah, son Thos. Richard. In 1930 William is seen in Los Angeles. Daughter, Altah, is still in the home. There is a 15 yr old Thomas in LA too living with a different family headed by a woman named Irene Ottstad?. He is shown as a son, but that is not accurate because she is 29 and he is 18. Her sons are 8 and 2. I am relatively certain this is the same family. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can once again be treasured by family. 1. City Summary (news items) Kansas City, MO 15 May 1881
    2. John O'Brien
    3. ATHERSON, BACON, BEALS, CAMPBELL, DUNLAP, FINK, GEE, GREEN, HAYDE, HUCKETT, KELLY, KING, MOSELY, ROBINSON, SQUIRE, SMITH, SPEERS, TATCHER, WILKINSON, WILSON "The Kansas City Sunday Times" (Missouri) May 15, 1881 CITY SUMMARY. (Kansas City, MO) J. J. SQUIRE's little boy is lying very ill with malignant malarial fever. A large party of Englishmen went out to Victoria over the Union Pacific road yesterday. A savage dog belonging to a man named KING attacked and severely bit J. J. MOSELY, near the Fort Scott shops, yesterday. Thomas GEE, caught in the act of picking pockets during the circus procession, was arrested by Officer HAYDE yesterday. A man was at the depot yesterday, stating he had been made the victim of the price of a $1,000 mile ticket by a St. Louis scalper. An old citizen says: "Why don't you put the small pox patients in Shelley park?" He wants to see this plat useful if not ornamental. A boy named FINK was thrown from a horse near the stockyards exchange yesterday morning, and striking against a tree box, two ribs were broken. John KELLY, charged with stealing a trunk at the depot, was bound over by Justice BACON yesterday in the sum of $500 and committed to the county jail. There was a sheriff's sale in progress at the TATCHER tanking company's works yesterday, and the investigations of the health officer were temporarily deferred. A number of prominent physicians will leave this week to attend the annual session of the State Medical Association, which meets at Mexico, Mo., May 17, 18 and 19. Hon. Wesley JONES of Burlington, is in the city, looking after the business of his flourishing branch house. His manager here, Mr. WILSON, who has been very ill, is now rapidly recovering. During the passage of the circus procession yesterday there were several runaways, the horses becoming frightened at the bands and strange animals and furious at the sight of the elephants. O. E. GREEN was arrested yesterday evening on a warrant sworn out by Fannie WILKINSON, charging him with using indecent language toward her at the corner of Sixteenth and Grand avenue. Justice BACON delivered his opinion in the CAMPBELL case yesterday. He discharged the prisoner on the charge preferred, holding him on the charge of common assault. The trial will come up Wednesday. Mr. John F. WILSON, equestrian manager of John ROBINSON's circus, was warmly greeted yesterday by his many friends in this city. WILSON is the champion manipulator of the arena in America, and is excelled by no one, not even old John himself. The local board of the Detroit Mutual Benefit association held a meeting on Friday and elected the following officers for the year: President, J. W. DUNLAP; vice president, P. G. ATHERSON; medical examiner, Dr. H. J. BEALS; secretary and treasurer, Elliott H. SMITH. During the flood, a large cat fish got into one of the inundated houses at Harlem and was unable to get out again. The family moved back yesterday and found the carcass of a cat fish weighing 100 pounds, lying on the floor. P. S. Chief SPEERS is responsible for this fish story. Somebody made Ollie HUCKETT, police clerk, a present of a velocipede yesterday. ====================================================== (I have no connection with any of these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

    1. Forest Hill Cemetery
    2. Hi list, I visited Forest Hill Cemetery this past week and found all my McCraw family. If anyone has any information for Nora McCraw Connely, Martha McCraw Welch, or Josephine McCraw Cockrum, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have death dates and would like obits for the following: A. (Andrew)J. McCraw Feb 20, 1911; Josephine Cockrum Jan 16, 1958; John Cockrum Apr 10, 1948 Elmer McCraw Feb 15, 1937; Nora Connely Sep 15, 1962; Albert Connely Jan 11, 1948; Grover C. McCraw May 31, 1958; Mamie McCraw Dec 21, 1955. Thanks for all your help, I only have years of death for the following: Martha E. McCraw Welch 1947; J W Welch 1956. I will call the cemetery on Monday and see if they will give me the actual date. With the new privacy act, She was reluctant to tell me much on Thursday, but this may not fall into that category. Jackie
