I understand that this unit was formed in 1863 for the defense of Ironton, MO. I have unsubstantiated information to the effect that he died 23 Dec 1864 in Paducah, Kentucky. Looking at the available online histories of battles in Kentucky, I see that the battles in that state were fought in south central and eastern Kentucky, while Paducah is in extreme western Kentucky. What was James doing in Paducah? Was there a military hospital in the rear area? Also, I have not found his name on any available roster. This message is also posted on the MO-CW forum.
