Iron county formed in 1857 from parts of Dent, Madison, Reynolds, St. Francois, Washington & Wayne counties. If your ancestors died in 1854, it was most likely in one of the above named counties Iron formed from, or they died after 1857. I am also posting this to the Iron List just in case there are new members who didn't see me post it awhile back. This is a breakdown on the counties Iron formed from: Dent - formed in 1851 from Crawford & Shannon counties. Crawford formed in 1829 from Gasconade Gasconade formed in 1820 from Franklin Franklin formed in 1818 from St. Louis which was an original district. Shannon formed in 1841 from Ripley and Washington counties Ripley formed in 1833 from Wayne Washington formed in 1813 from St. Genevieve which was an original district. Madison formed in 1815 from Cape Giradeau and St. Genevieve. Cape Giradeau was an original district. Reynolds formed in 1845 from Shannon. St. Francois formed in 1821 from Jefferson, St. Genevieve & Washington counties. Jefferson formed in 1818 from St. Genevieve & St. Louis. Wayne county formed in 1818 from Cape Giradeau. When searching Missouri for your ancestors, you need to keep these boundary changes in mind.
