Hello [I don't have a name as to whom I am writing] So far I am batting zero in finding any census records for your DOUGLAS family......... Do you have any death certificates that has birth and death dates and places............ Have you located any census records for any of the DOUGLAS family and if so, what census year and which county, etc........ In most cases the best way to find family is to start with known dates and places and then locate the individuals in the most current census [1930] and then *armed* with the info from that census you can then go backwards, 1920, 1910, 1900, etc....... I did look at all the census records of William DOUGLAS's in the 1900 Missouri records....... None of them match your names....... I'll try later tonight....... however addl info would help, Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: "saywho" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 4:41 AM Subject: Re: [MOIRON] Douglas in Census | Thank you for your help. Here are the first names I'm looking for. | | William and Margaret Douglas | Their children: Clifford, Elizabeth, Harry, Leona, Margaret, Rubein, | Sydney, Theodore, John, Quinton, Larry, and Janie. Rubein and Janie may be | the same person. Either Rubein or Janie is my ancestor. My | great-grandmother (daughter of Rubein or Janie), Lucille, was born in the | year 1900. So the above list of children would have been born around the | 1870 to 1880 years? William, of course, would have then been born in the | 1840-1860 generation (a guestament). | | One story I was given is that Lucille was born out of wedlock to Janie and | lived with her grandparents, William & Margaret, in Caledonia. The other | story I have is that Lucille was born to Rubein and Gilbert Schnell. | | I am also looking for Lucille's first husband, James William Wright (b. | 1896, d. 1945). He is my great-grandfather. He died and she remarried and | so we only have photos and information on her second husband. I have | information that James' brother was Daniel Boone Wright. Daniel's daughter, | Cora Wright, married Quinton Douglas. | | The family seems to be based around Pilot Knob area. I understand there are | still some descendants in that area. One is Chester Douglas, who gave me | some of this information. His ancestor is Quinton. Another is the current | fire chief of Pilot Knob (Elizabeth's grandson). I show Elizabeth, John, | Sydney, Quinton, Larry, and Janie (from the SS Index records) are buried in | Iron County. I believe Meg moved to Illinois after marriage. I've found a | contact with that family and am watching my mailbox. | |
Janet, Would you believe there are no Douglas family indexed in the 1880 census of Missouri? I quickly put together a webpage with my information. Some of it may be missing, but I did this over lunch time and will work on it more later. Sorry, it looks sloppy. But it will give you an idea of what dates I have, which are few. I just embarked on this branch, so I don't have much. That is why I'm looking in the census. I'm sure the children are even out of order and figured the census could give me approximate dates and put the children in order. But I can't find anything in the census. http://treadways.homestead.com/homepage.html I'll try to update it better tonight. All the #2's under the #1 are their children. All the #3's under a #2 (up til the next #2) are their children. I'm not sure about any of my information. I've just been collecting and putting things in places I thought appropriate. I'm not even sure if their name is with one 's' or two (Douglass). I tried that in the census to and came up empty. I believe it is one though, because that is where the SS index had them. Thanks for your help and concerns. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 9:16 AM Subject: Re: [MOIRON] Douglas in Census > Hello [I don't have a name as to whom I am writing] > > So far I am batting zero in finding any census records for your DOUGLAS > family......... Here's my new link. I'm working on the pages, they look a little better. I deleted the old page because I was organizing them in a different way. http://treadways.homestead.com/index.html Going to work on uploading photos shortly. My newly found cousin submitted some information since my last posting. So there is new information uploaded and also a better order of the children. She also told me that her records indicate that Gennie and Clifford were born out of wedlock by Margaret. Maybe folks who are reporting to me are getting their information mixed up as some of them are reporting from memory. None of this information is verified, except that I found Lucille and Gilbert's marriage certificate, which shows they both were from Caledonia, and also Jessie Mae's birth certificate. Thanks so much for everyone who has helped me. It never ceases to amaze me how folks help others just because they enjoy it. I've been trying to volunteer to look-up in my own city, but haven't found many needy people as of yet. I just want to complete the circle. If you've helped me, may it come back to you full circle!
