In researching the house where my aunt, Nelle White, lived, Elizabeth Jaquith purchased the property in 1870 and it was sold in 1905 to my great grandmother, Johanna Amelung and her son, Herman, ran the Saloon. Elizabeth Jaquith's children were living in Colorado at the time of her death which is why the house was sold in 1905. The house has a saloon in the downstairs and I'm just trying to find out more about the house/saloon and it's owners. I am also trying to find out if I had other relatives that worked in the Saloon when the Jaquith's owned it. I am lucky enough to have a photo of the house from the very early 1900's. My reason for believing that I had relatives working there is that on the 1870 and 1880 census, the Schlieter/Schlueter family is living close by (also my ancestors) and Henry Schlieter of the 1880 census is listed as a Saloon Keeper. I'm trying to find out if he ever worked in this same Saloon. My grandfather, Herman Amelung married Mary Schlueter who is a niece to the Henry Schlieter, bartender. Pilot Knob isn't very big and I don't know how many Saloons it had but I can't think that it was many. The house is located on Bogy Street and I'm told there use to be a train depot across the street from it. If anyone is familiar with this family, I'd enjoy hearing from you.
