TUNNEL DRIFTINGS. Mr. Ranft is preparing for the new lamp in the Shaft. A speaking tube has been fixed down into the Shaft. The Company has shipped a rand drill and all the accoutrements, to Mt. Carbon to work. Mr. James Highley goes there shortly to run it. Tom Reel and his partner, who were first to be laid off on account of the cap and powder business, have resumed work again. It is reported that the Dinger boys have discovered a new vein of iron ore on the south side or end of Shepherd Mountain. Pilot Knob was beautifully covered with snow Sunday morning and all the small boys turned out on a grand rabbit hunt. The diamond drill is still hammering away. Don't know how deep it is. Receiver Hitchcock and Manager Simpson took a run over the mines last week. Mr. Kidd had one of his fingers cut off at the first joint last week by the dropping of a large steel rail on it. Four more men laid off for having caps and powder in the same box. Look out boys! You know the orders.
