Marge..Thanks for replying...He was on the 1880 Fed Census; only under the wrong names..on page 20 Pilots Knob, Iron Co, MO. Stowell, James, Esta, Phoebe, Ada, Mercy...I decided it was him & family. But am wondering if he was there in 1876. Am trying to narrow it down as to when he got to Mo. from northern NY. He died in 1883 in Wayne Co., I see that the Ozark Library in Ironton, Mo has that 1876 Census. On the Iron gen web page there is Stowell listed under surnames on the 1876 census so I thought sure that he would be listed.
