    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Stevens, Dennison/Denison Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zMB.2ACI/100.148.306.2.2.1 Message Board Post: Melanie, I have no additional information on the Stephens other than what James Bell had in his book. However, I don't feel that Henry C.Stevens was a brother to my David Carson Stevens because of the age difference. Do you know if Henry was married before he married Goforth?.... The book that James Bell wrote says that Henry was a Brother to David Carosn and Rebecca's uncle. It goes on to say that Henry was county collector from 1885 until 1888. In 1890 he was charged with embezzlement and was granted a change of venue to the St. Louis Criminal court. The suit was lost to this researcher and his guilt or innocence was never determined. He seemed to disappear from the area for a long time. In the Centerville "Outlool" July 17, 1915 after he had paid a visit to Centerville was...."H.C.Stevens formerly Collector of Reynolds County had not been in Centerville for years. He lives at Bunker and has a position with the Bunker-Culler Lumber Company." Henry was shown on the 1910 Census of Re! ynolds County living in Bunker. That is all from James Bell's Book. With those calculations he would have been 97 years old when he was working at the lumber company in Bunker. I personally think that we MUST be talking about 2 different Henry Stevens'. I have no idea where Henry fits in with David. I do know that my grandfather, who was a son of Rebecca Stevens Dennison called Henry Stevens "Uncle Henry"....However, children in those days called elderly people Uncle and Aunt...even when they weren't really their uncle and aunt. I think that this Henry was more likely a nephew of David's but have nothing to support that. Perhaps you may want to check with the records of the criminal court in St. Louis for information on that suit. James Bell couldn't find anything but then at that time (copyright 1992) he didn't have the computer resources that we have today. I have Henry married to Margaret Lathim, and both being born in VA. Is this the same Henry as the one that married Goforth? Good luck with your research.
