    3. Joan, I put in a request yesterday to the Western Manuscripts at Rolla, for the microfilm of the Bethel Association dating back to 1816. I'm also in the process of obtaining the minutes of the Cape Girardeau association. The old Bethel log church is being rebuilt right now, may be nearly done; and a flatboat trip is underway right now on the Ohio river, in honor of early members and ministers there. I hope to be on board one day next week. 3. Hi, thank you for the reply. I'm on this forum but haven't learned how to post on message boards. Slow learner, I guess, and not into genealogy, just church history research. But the two are often inter-related. I have several more resources for information, so will continue checking, and if I find anything that might be of help to others, will post it on here. Thanks, everyone. Robert

[Wolf Creek and Leatherwood/ Bethel Association]. This was his reply: > I'm not familiar with either of the associations or the churches. > There is a Primitive Baptist Church on 72 highway between Ironton and > Fredricktown and that may be one of them. Primitive Baptist are very > much different than most other Baptists and there are very few around > here. In fact that one is the only one I know of. Now that Marge has sent a bit more info, I will see if anything she's found may help him recall something.... What I'm picking up from Marge's information is that: Concord Association existed in 1858 and by 1874, grew to 16 churches, and by 1920 grew to 21 churches - which (as of 1912 county boundaries) were located in Franklin and Reynolds counties. Bethel Association was continually sending off groups of churches for the establishment of other associations. {This really doesn't offer much information....} Central MO Association was established in 1860 and was made up of a group of churches from Iron County, including Big Creek Church, which was the oldest established church of the Black River Association formed in May 1845. I'm confused - did I miss an earlier note about Locust Grove? This is the first I've seen it mentioned and based on this info, it doesn't seem like it was necessarily part of the Bethel Association. I know earlier Marge mentioned neither Leatherwood or Wolf Creek were specifically mentioned in this book. Also Marge, is Robert part of the list, or do replies need to be sent directly to him? I didn't notice his posting on the Iron County message board, or would have also replied there. -Kay, FL > Subj: Re: [MOIRON] 19th century churches- Locust Grove > Date: 12/6/2006 10:59:28 PM Eastern Standard Time > From: margecam@lmcam1.com > > The History of SE MO by Douglass does mention Locust Grove church, but > just a mention: > Page 475: > In 1858, the Concord Association met at Pilgrims Rest church and > received the following new churches: New Prospect, Pleasant Exchange > (Ellis Campbell switched to this church), Mount Gilead and Sugar Tree Grove. McDonald gained from Newton. 1881 Morgan gained from Moniteau. 1889 St Clair gained from Benton. This concludes the changes to MO boundaries as of 1990 (the program I have, ANIMAP, was purchased in 1990). I have continually "preached" that you should NEVER say NEVER when someone says "I think I am connected to you".... I have done this a few times, to later find I was wrong. I have been told that traveling was hard in the early decades in this country...people just didn't move or travel far from home...Then how did they get here? They had to travel across an ocean that was once thought to be flat! If they did that...and wanted their own piece of this new country...I bet they traveled...walked if they had to. But, the above boundary changes in MO alone shows they could have sat in a huddle & showed up on a different census every 10 years. Did you know St. Louis was once an area claimed by Virginia? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcampbel/va2/1783va.htm USA as of 1783. If the above is cut off.. Go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcampbel/va2/ And choose the 1783 map... I put these up because so many have ancestors from "Virginia" that I wanted to show that Virginia once covered a vast area of America. I hope the above helps you find a way past a few brick walls. Hope this is not too long... 1. Re: [MOIRON] Zachariah Taylor Phillips 1850- 1894?
    2. Unless your great Grandmother was very young..she was not born in Iron county... Iron formed in 1857...was she born after 1857? Before 1857 for Iron, you need to check several other counties. 3. Marge, Thank you for that information; however, the churches I'm asking about were Reguar Baptist or Primitive Baptist, so they were not the same churches as those by the same name in your quotation. There was a Bethel Association of Primitive Baptists, and another of Missionary Baptists, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't known much about either one, and am just starting to learn a little bit lately. I have these two minutes 1884 and 1885 of the Bethel Primitive. Robert
