Missouri became a state in 1821, and was a territory as of 1812... before that it was a part of Louisiana purchase & was purchased by the US in 1803.. up to 1803 it was under control some of the time by Spain or France (back and forth). In 1805 MO became part of the Louisiana Territory. In 1812 it got it's own name, MO Territory. Hope this helps you all.. Marge

Iron county formed in 1857 from Dent, Madison, Reynolds, St Francois, Washington, and Wayne counties. Dent county formed in 1851 from Crawford & Shannon counties. Crawford county formed in 1829 from Gasconade county. Gasconade formed in 1820 from Franklin county. Franklin formed in 1818 from St. Louis (an original dist), but the boundaries not accurately defined until 1845. Shannon county formed in 1841 from Ripley & Washington counties Ripley county formed in 1833 from Wayne county. Wayne formed in 1818 from Cape Girardeau county (original dist). Madison county formed in 1818 from Cape Girardeau & Ste. Genevieve counties (orig districts) Reynolds county formed in 1845 from Shannon county (see above for Shannon formation). St. Francois county formed in 1821 from Jefferson, Ste Genevieve, Washington counties. Jefferson county formed in 1818 from Ste Genevieve & St. Louis counties (orig districts). Washington county formed in 1813 from Ste Genevieve (orig dist). As you can see, to determine where a place was located in a certain timeframe...you have to know where the county/state boundaries were & when they changed. I know you were asking about current location...but felt a repeat of the changes that had to be made to form Iron county may be of help to others. It's in the archives, but not everyone has access to the archives. Marge Campbell Littlefield, TX

In the 1880 census for Pilot Knob, Missouri it is noted that Annie is 11 months old. My grandmother was born in 1887. Annie must have died prior to that. My Grandmother always said that two children died before she was born. I have found a Johnnie that was buried in the Iron Mountain Baptist church cemetery on Sept. 19, 1882. I think this is William's and Minnie's son. I would like to find out what happened to Annie. I hope someone will be able to help me. Eellitta

I only have the Iron county map on pdf... I would have to scan the others... I,ll see what I can do...I am not using them, and if I can't copy them in time...you can share them with Jeanette however you want...they were only 65 cents each from MO DOT... I ordered them online.
