    3. DOUBLE SPRINGS (1820) Double Springs Church was organized July 15, 1820, with eleven charter members, viz., Joseph Boyer, Sally Boyer, Walter Burris, Nancy Burris, Belinda Graham, Jacob Sowder, Silba Sowder, Isaiah Stephens, John Stephens, Elizabeth Stephens, and Anna Stephens. The presbytery was composed of Elders Peter Wood, Lewis Shelton, and Jacob Chism. Elder Lewis Shelton served the church "until David Allee comes out." In October 1820, David Allee was chosen pastor. Elder Lewis Shelton united with the church by letter in August 1829. In March 1822 the church took under consideration building a meeting house, on one side of the creek. In June 1828, an addition was planned. The church united with an Association in 1820, but the records do not state its name. In October 1823 the church appointed delegates to assist in the constitution of the South District Association. SURNAMES OF MEMBERS: Amos, Barrens, Boyer, Burris, Claybrook, Cruise, Cundiff, Davis, Duvall, Graham, Hanna, Howard, Jobe, Jones, Kirkham, Lunda, Maldan, McCaslin, McDaniel, Patterson, Payne, Peoples, Reeves, Shelton, Smith, Sowder, Stark, Stephens, Stubblefield, Tate, Vernon, Ware, Williams (spelling may be incorrect in several of these as the records are difficult to read). NOTE: We have the records of Double Springs Church. We are in touch with Missouri's Western Manuscript Collection to see about sharing microfilms of the records we each have that the other does not have. http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html
