Buried in New Hope Cemetary, Fayette, Howard, MO. 1920 Bonnefemme Twsp., Howard Co., MO (file 87.1a) 5 5 GRAPES, Silas H., Head. w, m, 62, MO KY MO, farm labor working out >From "The Higbee News" dated 2 July 1936--SILAS GRAPES A SUICIDE-- Shoots Self Monday In Fit of Despondency Interment at New Hope--Silas Grapes, a well known resident of the Burton vicinity, shot and fatally wounded himself at the home of his son, Grover, Monday morning, shooting himself in the head with a revolver, dying three hours later without having regained consciousness. He had not been himself for a day or two, and no doubt was affected by the heat. He was born January 17, 1859, and was married to Mary B. Dougherty in 1884, and who passed away many years ago. He is survived by his son, Grover, two grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Silas Payton, Salisbury, and four brothers, Isaac, of Salisbury, Jake, of Moberly, and Johnson and Joseph, of Higbee. Honest and hard working, he had the respect of all who knew him. Funeral services were held at New Hope Christian church,with which he united at an early age, Tuesday, and interment made in the adjoining cemetery. 292 Research: Middle name of Haden262 He married Mary B.
