Wives of Jacob from262 The Higbee News 10 Dec 1936--JAKE GRAPES INJURED--Jake Grapes, Katy sectiion foreman, of Moberly, and whose territory extends to Higbee, had a very narrow escape from serioious injury or death Thursday. He was standing by the side of the track on the Division street crossing, and as the local freight came by, he thought to get on the coach that is used as express car and caboose and ride to the depot. Just as he attempted to swing himself on the steps he stumbled, which broke his hold, and he was thrown to the ground and toward the track. Alex Gaines, who was standing near, but not close enough to render any help, says he was so sure Mr. Grapes would be killed that he turned his back to keep from witnessing such a horrible thing, and that when he turned to see what had happened he saw Mr. Grapes hit by the truck of the coach and knocked and pushed away from the track. Mr. Grapes was taken to the office of Dr. C. F. Burkhalter, who discovered no grereater injury than a broken rib or two on the left side and a very sever scalp wound, as well as sccratches and bruises about the face. Mr. Grapes was later taken to a Moberly hospital, where Dr. Burkhalter' diagnosis was confirmed, and at last accounts was doing nicely.302 He married Nannie M. WOODS, daughter of Andrew J.
