I was in Jeff City last Friday and made quite a few discoveries and one surprise. I was going thru the Marriage Certificates for 1912-1920,Vol 7, which are indexed. I came across a Lloyd Allen WAGGONER listed as the groom but in the brides place it said (contract marriage). What does that mean exactly? I kind of have an idea.. it could be an arranged marriage or maybe a marriage by proxy.. but I don't understand why the brides name wasn't entered like all the other listing. Anyone have ideas??
