It's real easy to think that the LDS/GSU has filmed everything. Then one gets short sighted. A cousin who was affliated with the Northwest MO Genealogy Society in St. Joseph was telling me how the poor house records of Holt County were filmed. I said I couldn't find them in the FHL Catalog. She said that they were in the MO SOS Archive catalog. I used the MO SOS web site for some death records, but never fully explored it. After some trial and error, I found those poor house records. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/county/croll.asp Scroll down to Holt (or any other MO county) and you can see the holdings by the State Archives. (13 pages of film holdings for Holt: Circuit Court Records, Collections, all kinds of taxes, Flood Papers from 1984, County Court Minutes, poor farm records, birth and death stuff, etc). It's $15 per roll. I'd still cross check with the LDS films as I think they might be cheaper to order (if they have them). This is the same web site that asking for volunteers to transcribe death records: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/deathFAQ.asp#vol If I'm understanding this correctly, they are asking you to do only 50 pages. I'm thinking it may turn out like Arizona's: http://genealogy.az.gov/ Type in Smith, Olin and click on the link and voila! His death certificate appears! (I got that from the parent site of Death Indices Online: http://www.deathindexes.com/ Hope this helped someone today! Sincerely, Cheri Mello (who opened her eyes today!)
