There were two men named Joseph Scott in Holt Co., MO. One married Lucinda McCorkle Kelso. The other Joseph Scott was the brother of George I. Scott and was with him in the 1850 Holt Co. census. He married Minerva G. (Shirley) DeVorss 4 Apr 1852 Buchanan Co. MO. Minerva had married 1st Samuel DeVorss 1 Nov 1849. Samuel died after the census was taken on Nov. 15, 1850 but before Dec. 26, 1850. Samuel died intestate. The administrator (December 26, 1850) was Minerva G. DeVorss with Richard Shirley and James Black as securities. On October 5, 1852 the estate remained unadministrated and Minerva had remarried. Richard Shirley was probably Minerva's father as he had married Jerusha Buskirk 17 Feb 1827 Monroe Co., IN, and was in the 1850 census in Buchanan Co., MO. Minerva was born in 1829 IN according to census records. GONE HOME has Mr. M. G. Scott d. Jan. 17, 1892 aged 63y.
