There is a Leonard in Otto and Rosa Moser family, they had a son by that name. Do you know if Otto and Rosa were his parents and he had a sister named Leona Lilly Moser?
My aunt married Leonard Mosser 10/15/1940. Leonard was born 2/11/1909 in Nodaway, MO. Is this any of the family you are trying to trace? Gene
Can anyone tell me if there were some Mosers living in that area. I am looking for my grandmothers family.
In the Gone Home 1, I see several Moser's listed. Give me some more info on what you are looking for and I will look for them for you. I also see different spellings of the name being Mosher and Mosser and the early spelling of the name being Mosier. My parents were both born and raised in Forest City and I remember them both having friends named Moser, or like spelling. My dad was born in 1907 and mom in 1919. Dad's parents were born, raised and died in Forest City. Let me know if I can help you. Mary Calstock@cs.com wrote: > Can anyone tell me if there were some Mosers living in that area. Hi my name is Elizabeth Thornhill and I am looking for relatives of Albert Thornhill. He is my ggrandfather. He was born in Missouri in 1854 and died in texas or oklahoma in 1911. But I don't know where in Missouri he was born. I don't know his fathers name but I think that it maybe Jesse or Ruben. I know that the his mother is named Elizabeth. I have also been told in my family that we are related to Cole Younger and some of the members of the Hole in the Wall Gang that ran with Jesse James. One of Albert's children are named after Jesse James. If this sounds familar to anyone please contact me. I have noticed that several of my ancesters as well as others have moved from Holt Co. to Montana in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Does anyone have any idea why? What was the attraction? Mary

Dear List Members, Here it is the first of July and I am late in sending you the Second Quarterly Report. I was in Maryland and Delaware enjoying three of my children their spouses and five of my grandchildren for the 4th of July. Due to the lateness of this report I am not going to send the individual numbers of members for each of the lists I take care of. It is an all day job. If any of you really want to know how many are on your list, just e-mail me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and ask. Be sure and let me know what list you are asking about. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. I know there are exceptions to most rules including this one. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting, something I have done or not done. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. Thanks for this interesting (and sad) bit of history, Vicki. I wonder how Patrick Sipes, who helped me so much with Holt Co lookups, is doing; he lives in ShowLow, AZ, which is in the path of a terrible wildfire. Patrick, our thoughts are with you. Jean Edwards in CA
Thanks, Vicky. This seems to be relevant to all of us researching Holt County families. Another possibility in doing geneology is weather and natural disasters - floods, etc. and fires. Does anyone know if there was anything like that in Holt County's past? Back in February I had asked if anyone on the list knew anything about an epidemic in February March 1880 time period in the Holt County area. I have found the following: The Holt County (Missouri) Sentinel February 20, 1880 Quite a number of the village children are still struggling with the measles. Few cases still of diptheria. The latter disease seems to assail its victims with intense malignancy an attacking being almost the same as death. Sorry to note four death this week. One, a little son of Wm. Griffith, living eight miles northwest of us. The lad was but four years old and had been sick but two days with scarlet fever, terminating fatally Saturday morning. Word has just reached the city that a daughter of Mr. Griffith died on Monday morning. The grevious (sic) event following so suddenly the death of a son, makes it a seriously bitter cup for the stricken family. Schuyler Barrett, a boy about thirteen, died Thursday evening, after a week's struggle with diptheria. The family are temporarily here for the winter, having arranged to go upon a farm in the county in the spring. They formerly resided in Iowa. Mr. Lease's child died Sunday at their home in the north east part of the city. The funeral was preached at the Christian church. Vicky Drake dvicky@primenet.com
I am researching the Durham family. My grandmother, Maude Sylvia Durham (?dob:1880?) was the daughter of Presley S. Durham (b. 10-16-183; d. 2-12-1913 in Mound City, MO) and Lois Durham (nee: Chambers; b. 12-23-1844; d. 8-14-1899, in Mound City). (They were married 2-6-1876 but I do not know where). Maude was born I think in Mound City, MO and married Gerhard (or George) Otzen in San Francisco in 1905 and had 3 sons: Lorenz Durham (my father), Keith Otzen, and Leigh H. Otzen). I think Maude died about 1924 in Alameda, CA. Presley Durham's 1913 obit. says he was a Mason and that he was survived by 9 children: Adie Niendorf, Idaho Mrs. W. M. Lansdown, CA Mrs. Gerhard Otzen, CA (This is Maude Sylvia) Mrs. _? S. Lysaght, St. Joseph, MO Leigh? Durham, Kansas City Mrs. J. Cooke, Mrs. M.D. Newton, Bert Durham, and Flora Durham: Mound City I would like to know Maude's birthdate; also, when Presley and Lois came to Mound City (I could not find a Durham in the 1850 Holt County Census). I believe Lois was Presley's second wife. I would like to know deeper family history than this. I am just starting to do family history. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. Linda Grimm Oberlin, OH
Dear List Members, I know this list will effect only a few of you, but thought I would let you know of it beginning. The Buffalo-Hunters Mailing list was approved yesterday and now is ready to subscribe to. If you have ancestors who were Buffalo Hunters and or are interested in their history, this list will be the place to learn about the Buffalo Hunters of the Old West. I had two great uncles who were hired by the U.S. Government as Buffalo Hunters. Living in 2002 I know what they did caused starvation to a group of people, waste and the near annihilation of a species. Of this I am not proud, but what they did is a part of the history of this country and I am proud of them for doing what they thought was right at that time. To join, send only the word SUBSCRIBE to BUFFALO-HUNTERS-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM I look forward to the Buffalo-Hunters Mailing List becoming another tool for each of us to understand the world out ancestors lived in. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom
I am new to the list and have just tried to reach Lynn Cupp with a lookup request and it came back. I am trying to locate information on Estaline (Esta) Wray. She is enumerated in the 1900 Census for Holt County, Forest Twp Incorporated city: Forest City Ward 2 ED 86, Sheet 4B, Dwelling # 83, Family# 83 June 4, 1900 with her son John. I have been told that she died in 1908, but that is all the information that I have. Would SKS please do a lookup for me to see if she is listed? Your help is greatly appreciated. She is one of my biggest mysteries. Thank you, Wanda
