Dear List Members, On Monday, December 23, I begin my Christmas Holiday week. I am spending it with my four children, their wives and husbands and my 9.5 grandchildren. It will be the first time in over 10 years I have had all my children with me for Christmas. I am thrilled to say the least. It is hard, as many of you know, when all of your children and grandchildren live thousands of miles from you. As you have already guessed, I will not be spending as much time as usual online watching over your list, but I will be back to full time on Tuesday, December 31st. I have also chosen not to have a list-sitter watch you while I am away. I really do not think you need one. I will be checking in each evening after the grandchildren and down for the day. If there is a problem which you think I need to address, send a personal message to me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. I will check those first thing each night. If off topic messages are sent or if suddenly someone calls for a Roll Call, please just let it pass. Just smile and remember what I would say and hit that delete button. I will take care of the problems for you as soon as I check in. I have the best lists on Rootsweb and the greatest members so I know you will be just fine. I wish for each of you and yours a special Holiday Season filled with love, friendship, friends and family. I thank each of you for your friendship and for your support this past year. You fill my my world. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Thank you very much Beverly. I think this is probably correct also as the children have the same names and ages. Emma isn't listed in 1870 however. Funny the wifes name isn't given..guess she was gone for the day and maybe her husband always called her "wife" and the children "ma" so no one knew her name.. :) Wonder why Susan wasn't with her husband..wonder if I'll ever get this figured out!! I'm looking for information, such as his parents and other family members, on Samuel F. FREEMAN, born in 1820-30 in Franklin County, Virginia. Thanks.
>In 1880 I find Stephen A. GOODALE, married, living in a boarding house in >St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Mo. working as a carpenter but Susan isn't >enumerated. Hi, The index listing on the 1880 census is wrong, the actual page shows W(hite) M(ale) and the transcriber listed it as married. He is a 28 year old house carpenter and listed as born IN with both parents born VT. This is the only Stephen Goodale in MO but there are 12 others. Found his marriage to Susan listed as 1874. You might repost the message with a subject of "1876 Special Census Request" as I know someone on this list does lookups in that census. Hi, Could I ask for a lookup in the 1876 census for Jasper Barmor and family, please ??? Thanks, Dix...
Dear Bob, Thank you for letting me know about the 1876 Special Census taken in Mo. this may be of some great help to me. In your answer you stated that finding the marriage of Susan Bean and Stephen GOODALE had taken place in 1874. Would you mind sharing the source for that marriage with me? Was any other information listed on the marriage? I think that Susan BEAN was most likely daughter of Baxter Bean and elder sister to Thomas BEAN. Hello! I'm hoping for a 1876 Special Census look-up in Mo. for Stephen GOODALE. He is found in Holt County in 1874 as marrying Susan BEAN. Any information will be helpful. There is some association to a Orin (many spellings including Aaron?) and Harry GOODALE. Hello, I'm brand new to the list. I was looking for Bobbi Jo Meyer, who posted the Williams family names: Charles Albert, Eliza Jane, and Morris Emery. I have a collateral connection to this line through Eliza Jane (McBRIDE) Williams, through her mother, Amanda (MAYFIELD) McBride. Would be happy to hear from Bobbi Jo and/or any other researchers of these lines. Thanks! Good Morning, I've recently joined this mailing list in the hopes of finding out more about my ggGrandfather, Stephen A. GOODALE b. 1852. (Indiana or Ohio, parents Vermont or Ohio and one source says mother, Ireland) I've very scant information concerning his early life as Census records give differing information and he's not to be found in 1860 or 1870 anywhere I've looked. I do find that in 1873 Susan BEAN and Stephen GOODALE marry in Holt Co., Mo. 23Sep1873. 1870 Census: Dallas Twp., Holt Co., Mo. household #206 BEAN, Baxter 43 wm born N. C. , Susan 17 born Ind. , Thomas 12 born Illinois 1880 Census Bigelow, Holt, Mo. BEAN, Baxter b. 1821 N. C. 59 Farmer married , unknown spouse name: b. Ind. , Thomas b. 1858 Illinois at home In 1880 I find Stephen A. GOODALE, married, living in a boarding house in St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Mo. working as a carpenter but Susan isn't enumerated. By 1884, Stephen has remarried (to my ggGrandmother) Paulina WATSON (this may be a 2nd marriage for her also) and a dau., Laura Anna GOODALE, my gGrandmother, is born and in 1896 they have a son, William Jesse GOODALE born in St. Joe, Mo. Does anyone have any death records for these areas of Mo. and look-up Susan BEAN GOODALE for me? Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving, Marie "Life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away"
Dear List, I am looking for any information on my GGGrandfather Charles Corning family. Charles, Martha Jane, Letitia Belle (found as Lutecia B.) Mary E. (middle name Elizabeth, called Lizzie) and Edith A. (middle name probably Amanda, called Mandy) were found in 1870 Holt Co. census, near Oregon, MO. The girls were living with the Joel Hewitt family some distance away. Charles Corning died soon after that (estimated 1874) and I would like to find out if he died while in Holt Co and where he is buried. He was listed as a laborer but family lore says he was captain of a steamboat on the MO river. The children were later given away and I find "Bell" Corning living in Holt Co., near Mound City as a servant with T.W. McCoy in 1880. Absolutely any info appreciated as I have so little. A Photo of any of them would be wonderful ! I know Belle associated with the Ross family around "Ross Grove". Thank you for your help, Terry T.

Marie, Are your COOK's from Holt as well? In the 1830's a number of German families entered the US via New Orleans and settled in MO. According to my Aunt Sue, who lives there, "All the Holt Cooks are related to us." I doubt that, but I have been trying to trace Jacob Cook born in Hannover. There is an older Jacob listed in the census who may be his father, if this sounds at all familiar I will be happy to give dates and other family names. He married an Ahrens in MO. Dear List, This is my first post to this list as I've found a marriage between Susan BEAN and Stephen GOODALE 23Sep1874 in Holt County, Mo. My ggGrandfather was Stephen A. GOODALE and the marriage with Susan may have been his first marriage as he later married Paulina WATSON and they are my ggGrandparents. They were both in their late 30's when they married and WATSON may be Paulina's married name. I am hoping someone can locate Susan BEAN and family on the 1870 Census and perhaps any GOODALE's. Thank you for your time, Marie A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. ~Greek proverb
