    3. I was in Jeff City last Friday and made quite a few discoveries and one surprise. I was going thru the Marriage Certificates for 1912-1920,Vol 7, which are indexed. I came across a Lloyd Allen WAGGONER listed as the groom but in the brides place it said (contract marriage). What does that mean exactly? I kind of have an idea.. it could be an arranged marriage or maybe a marriage by proxy.. but I don't understand why the brides name wasn't entered like all the other listing. Anyone have ideas?? Im going by the nameing pattern they had back then. . They were there until 1887 when they moved to Goodland Kansas. Im thinking the reason they went to holt county(Benton twp) was because of family. This WILSON name is tough. I have found Joseph and his family on that census but there were two proven mistakes. One, Jesse is shown as a female, and i have his entire downline, and also they show Joseph Alpha WARREN as "Alfred." If you run across anything that might help me, i would sure appreciate it. 3. Rick, I researched at Clayton Library yesterday and looked up your Wilsons in Holt Co., MO. I didn't find too much, but here's some. Also, did you see the information I posted from Ancestry.com? Holt County, Missouri Special Census 1876 [page # is from census record, not from the book] p 214 R. M. Wilson and wife, Melinda [this would be the son of your William & Mary Ann (Varner?) and children John S., Alex J., Robert N., Sarah E., Mary A., Samuel. p 212 I found a James Wilson living alone; could be the son of Robert and Melinda (he appears with then on the 1860 census and would be the right age). I found three (!) Mary Wilsons living alone - all over the age of 45 (the only upper age designation in this census. Finally, in "Marriage Book B, pages 130 - 133 for years 1860 - 1870 [Holt Co., MO] William A. Wilson (still living with William & Polly in 1860) married Susan K. Hudson on 1 Mar 1869 Rick, Hopefully, with the above info and the census records posted 9/27, you have a litle more to go on. Kind Regards, Joyce PS I didn't find Humble anywhere... ----- Original Message ----- From: R Wilson<mailto:genealogy@Jerkwater.net> To: MOHOLT-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:MOHOLT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 27, 2004 8:20 PM Subject: [MOHOLT] William and Polly Wilson I am looking for anyone who might have information about the family of William and Polly Wilson who moved to Holt County from Franklin Co, MO between the 1850 and 1860 censuses. William and Polly are both listed in "Gone Home" as buried in Caton Cemetery in Benton Township. Polly's surname might be Varner. James is a strong candidate for being my gg-grandfather, James Lee Wilson, who was born 1830 and married Barilla Proctor in Holt Co in 1855. 3. Research suggestion using the below post as an example. For those who have access to Ancestry.com... On the website, scroll to the bottom where the census are listed and click "all years." For a broader search, type in the first name and surname (exact if it's common and doesn't have an alternative spelling) AND a state where you wish to search. In this case, "William Wilson" Missouri. Click search. Then choose which ever census you wish to search. In this case, 1860. The information is grouped by county within the state. By doing so, there is a William Wilson, Dallas Twp, Holt Co. b. (c1796 PA) Don't discount the birthplace or birthyear. In this case, this is the same person as listed in the below inquiry - wife is Polly A. with a William A. now age 19. The advantage of searching using "all years" is that one can click "back" and look at the other census for further research. Anyway, here's what I found using similar search options as above. 1860 Dallas, Holt, MO, Rush Bottom Post Office page 6 William WILSON, 63, b. (c1796) PA Polly A. WILSON, 62, b. (c1797) PA William A. WILSON, 19, b. (c1841) KY Nancy J. WILSON, 2, b. (c1858) MO living next door to the above Henry A. WILSON, 21, farmer, b. MO Sarah E. WILSON, 21, b. OH Melinda A. WILSON, 2, b. OH Jane FITZWALTER, 66, b. VA Sarah FITZWALTER, 28, b. IA Alvilla STORY, 17 (housemaid) living very close by (page 7 of the same census) living in the same house with Samuel M. SMICLE (unsure of surname spelling) Andrew J. WILSON, 22, farmer, b. MO Rebecca A. WILSON, 21, b. MO Philina B. WILSON, 1, b. MO living down the road in Benton, Holt, MO, North Point Post Office page 3 Robert WILSON, 28, b. OH Melinda A. WILSON, 26, b. OH John S. WILSON, 3, b. MO Nathan A. WILSON, 9/12, b. MO William J. WILSON, 16, b. MO James M. WILSON, 7, b. MO Hope the above is of some help. Kind Regards, Joyce Z. PS Only listing for "Humble" Wilson is the one mentioned in the post below, found on 1850 census District 31, Franklin, MO (recorded erroneously in Ancestry as "Hamble" though the lettering on the record itself is clearly "Humble"). He may have died. 3. I, too, have connections with Holt Co., MO. Which resources have you researched? I live near Houston, so the next time I go to Clayton Genealogy Library (Houston); I'll look for your Wilsons. The resources in Clayton are: 1876 Holt Co., MO special census. Index from History of Holt & Atchison Counties, Mo. St. Joseph, MO National Historical Company, 1882. Holt Co., MO death notices from area newspapers, Vol 1 - 5 (1857 - 1910) indexed Holt County, Missouri, birth records, 1883-1893 Holt Co., Mo., death's [sic], 1888-1893 Holt County marriages, Book B, 1860-1870 -- Book C, 1870-1881 Naturalization (Declaration of intention--Certificate of Citizenship) Kind Regards, Joyce Z ----- Original Message ----- From: R Wilson<mailto:genealogy@Jerkwater.net> To: MOHOLT-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:MOHOLT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 27, 2004 8:20 PM Subject: [MOHOLT] William and Polly Wilson I am looking for anyone who might have information about the family of William and Polly Wilson who moved to Holt County from Franklin Co, MO between the 1850 and 1860 censuses. William Wilson Jan 1798-24 Mar 1864 Mary Ann (Polly) Dec 1798-10 Nov 1880 1. James Wilson 1829 2. Robert Wilson 1831 3. Humble Wilson 1833 4. Nancy Wilson 1835 5. Andrew Wilson 1838 6. Henry Wilson 1840 7. William A. Wilson 1842 All of these children were living with them in 1850, but there could have been older children who had already left home. They immediately began homesteading across the River in Brown Co, KS. Humble is a probable ancestral surname. William Jr. was still with them in 1860, but I don't know what became of any of the others unless James is my ancestor. This family may be related to the Fitzwater family since they relocated together and I have also found a Humble Fitzwater. ==== MOHOLT Mailing List ==== If you wish to unsubscribe from the Holt Co., MO Mailing List, send only the word UNSUSCRIBE to MOHOLT-l-request@rootsweb.com<mailto:MOHOLT-l-request@rootsweb.com> or if you are on the Digest List to MOHOLT-d-request@rootsweb.com<mailto:MOHOLT-d-request@rootsweb.com> ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
