    1. Raymond Spencer
    2. Patricia
    3. RAYMOND SPENCER. Looking for information about Raymond Spencer who was in the Army stationed in England in May of 1944 near or at Cheddars. He went to France June 6th with the D Day landings. He returned to Somerset, England in June of 1945 before he returned to the US. Looking for Mr. Raymond, his family or Orbit. Can any one help? Believe he lived at Holt, Mo or Holt county or Holts Summit. I am not sure which before WWII. His daughter is looking for him. His family may not know of her existence but she would like to know what he was like and what happened to him. She only met him once when she was young. She waited until her mother died...to try and find him. I am afraid might be too late, to find him? I am involved because she wrote to my uncle because we have a Raymond Spencer in our family but he was not in the military service. I do have a picture of him so if any one is interested or thinks they can find this family I will send it to you. If any one knows how to look up local orbit would be very appreciative. . Birthday may have been May 9, 1923 if so he would have passed away in September of 1968. Additional information on this family may be: Shown on the 1930 census a Raymond Spencer 6 years old living in Cote Sans Dessien in Callaway County Missouri. This town in very close to Holts Summit according to the Latitude and Longitude and is in Callaway County Missouri. The census was taken on April 10, 1930 so Raymond would have still been six if his birthday is May 9th. In 1930 the parents listed are Ben and Hester; Sisters Mildred and Maude(?) and brother Henry and Hester's brother Frank. SSDI (Social Security Death Index) found a Raymond Spencer born May 9, 1923 died September 1968, SSN 498-14-9480 in Missouri. IF this is the corrcet one we dont know yet. Patricia Murrell Mata pjmata@cox.net Our family was contacted because we had a Raymond Spencer but he was not in the war.

    2. RICHARD RUSSELL
    3. Hello. Please. Need information on families that moved to Holt Co, in the 1850s, from Indiana. Part went to Andrew Co first, and then later into Holt Co. Widow Dianna (Hunt) Blades, along with two married daughters, moved from Shelby Co Indiana to Missouri in 1855, her and one daughter to Andrew Co, and the other daughter to Holt Co. Dianna lived with James L. Peters and Mary A. (Blades) Peters in Andrew Co first, and is listed on the 1860 census. The Peters children were Nancy 1855, David 1858/9, Thomas 1862. James L. Peters disappears from the records after 1862, and was "said" to have "died" Civil War?, but his widow (Mary Ann (Blades) Peters) and children, and mother (Dianna (Hunt) Blades) , have moved across into Holt Co by 1870. David Peter had married a Martha ( ? ) by 1880, Nancy Jane Peters had married John H. Acton 1875, and close by was Thomas Peters, with mother widow Mary Ann (Blades) Peters, and grandmoth! er Dianna (Hunt) Blades (now 75 yrs old and "blind"). Nancy Jane (Peters) Acton was still living Holt 1900. Diana (Hunt) Blades other daughter, Samantha "Nancy" Jane (Blades) Winton, along with husband Samuel F. Winton, had moved into Holt Co in 1855, but would only be there untill "middle" 1860's, as deaths would change their history. The Wintons had three children, Enoch Frank Winton and Mary Elnora Winton before leaving Indiana, and George R. Winton born Holt Co. The mother, Samantha "Nancy" Jane (Blades) Winton, and son George R. Winton, would both die here in Holt Co, and her widower husband Samuel F. Winton would return to Indiana by 1864. Thank you. Regards, Dick

    1. Holt Co. "adoptions"
    2. Speaking of "adoptions," I have a copy of this from GONE HOME (top of page 31), from Blackburn, con't: Item of History: A John Conn, aged 14 y, from the N.Y. Home of the Friendless, was adopted by E.M. Blackburn. (HCMP Nov. 27, 1981) E.M. Blackburn is Elihu Merrit Blackburn. He may have been in Holt in 1889, but definately by 1891. He had children born (and died) there in 1891, 1893, 1895. The next kid was born in 1899 in Kansas, so he was no longer in Holt Co. John Conn does not appear on the 1900 census with the Blackburn family. Nor does he appear in the family photo taken c. 1905 (taken in Los Angeles). Anyone know who John Conn was? Sincerely, Cheri Mello Blackburn in Holt Co.

    1. MEYER / PERSON adoption?
    2. Sinta Seiber-Lane
    3. My MEYER family spent some time in Holt County in the 1870's and while there it seems that JOHN ADOLPH MEYER "adopted" a boy named Ulyssus PERSON, b. 1872 in MO. There is no information about the boy's parents. This is according to the 1880 census when the family had moved on to Kansas. While it is possible that he was "adopted" in Kansas, I am wondering if the PERSON family is listed in the Gone Home book or, perhaps, anywhere near my family in the 1876 Holt County Special Census where they were found on pg 19, 60th Twp, 37th Range? Can anyone look these things up for me. The boy is not a direct ancester and, as far as I can tell, he disappears after 1880 from the MEYER family...there was no mention of him that we know of. Did he die? Did he run off? I'm curious... Thanks! Sinta Seiber-Lane Springfield, IL
