    2. This note is a little long, but I found the information very helpful. Please take a minute to read it, to help you with posting queries. The reply function of this list has been temporarily set to "Reply to list" to help combat an email virus. (if you want details, email me privately at joysmail@aol.com). So if you want to respond privately to someone, hit "reply all" on your email program so it includes the senders address. Joy Donna Potter Phillips recently had an article in Heritage Quest magazine regarding posting queries. I found the information very helpful and thought I would share the tips with the list: BE SPECIFIC: Follow the "5 W's Rule: Who, What, Why, Where, When BE BRIEF: Do not ramble on about your family; only you care. Give only enough information to make your request crystal clear to the reader BE REASONABLE: Do not ask for "everything you have" of anybody! BE UNDERSTOOD: Avoid abbreviations and pronouns that can cause confusion. Do capitalize surnames. (Please do not capitalize entire posts as it is more difficult to read all caps, even for those with poor eyesight. It also comes across in email as SHOUTING!) BE COURTEOUS: ask - do not demand BE THOUGHTFUL: These are your cousins, however distant. Offer to share information BE CORRECT: Proofread your query before you send it to ensure that it is understandable BE SMART: Well written queries are easier to answer and are much more apt to then be answered. Do make sure that the Subject Line of your query is concise and really defines the information you seek. "Seeking Great Grandfather Phillips" is not very likely to get results, but "PHILLIPS, Charles R. 1872-1938, GA>TX>WA" is not only an eye catcher but shows at a glance what you seek. Sign your Internet queries with your name and email address. Some email programs do not show the address of the sender. So, as a suggestion, rather than posting "ROLL CALL" or "MY HENRY COUNTY FAMILY" in the subject line of an email, please list your surnames. If there isn't enough room, send an additional email or just list the most prominent names. For easier reading, in the body of the email, it would be helpful to list the surnames first and then go into your narrative: SETTLES HUNT HOOKER TROSTLE THOMPSON Looking for death information on Mary E. (HUNT) SETTLES, Daughter of Hiram and Malinda HUNT, and wife of William P. SETTLES. Died between 1863 and May 1870 in Henry County Missouri.
