Hello List, Different James line. Jesse James was born in Clay County, Mo., in 1847, son of Robert Sallee James and Zerelda Cole. They moved there from Logan County, Kentucky, circa 1840. Though it seems that every family with roots in Missouri has a story about "providing fresh horses to Jesse James", it is much more likely that what was provided (in those cases where the James boys did pay a visit) was hospitality, food, water and a rest for both horses and riders. We have a family story that David Collins provides fresh horses to the James brothers on the Grand River in Henry County Missouri. David collins was the brother of my gr. grandmother Evaline Collins who married Daniel Pitts DENNIS.
