I am searching for the gravesite of Elizabeth Douglass Hines which should be in Henry Co. She was widowed at age 37 so may have re-married. She had daughters, Sophrona and Catherine who married Bennett brothers, but she is not in the cemeteries where they lie. Fae

I always check MoHenry questions and try to help when I can. On Charles Henry Peats, I see by rootsweb.com/~mohenry/henryco.html marriage records that Amanda Brown married A. N. Peet, June 12, 1852, Henry County, MO. Then Amanda Brown married Henry Ayers, July 18, 1858, St. Clair Co, MO. The name Peats could be spelled several different ways. Was Charles Henry Peats in the Civil War? Those records are complete in some cases. Perhaps an obit on Catherina Brown could yield some records. Obits are difficult to obtain in that period of time. I can keep looking if you don't find anything. I just like to help find genealogy information. Doris Wilson Barnhart
Poke around the County courthouse in Clinton. Recorder's offices always have records to look through. Then walk across the street and and visit the museum there. Among other historical things they had the original will of my ancestor Thomas Arbuckle, an original settler. Bill Morrison.
I am planning a trip to Henry County MO. Can anyone tell me the libraries or genealogical societies that I courld visit? times and days they would be open? Thank you for your time, Linda BLOOD Donnici LINDA"S FAMILY TREE INDEX

I was wondering if anyone had a list or knew where I could obtain a list of the local churches that were in or near Henry County, Missouri in or before 1849. Also, if anyone is aware of any orphanages that were open in Missouri around that time as well. Trying to find an ancestors lost parents' names. His name was Charles Henry Peats. He was born March 18, 1849, but I don't know to whom. I cannot find him in the 1850 census, but in the 1860 census he is living with a woman by the name of Catherina Brown. I have also traced him to Indiana in 1880 and 1900. It states that his parents were born in Tennessee. Unfortunately, that is the only information that I have on them. I would really appreciate it if someone on the list knows of a way I can find out his parents names, I would be forever grateful. I am at a loss. I also have his death certificate and it states his parents as UNKNOWN. Thanks for your time and effort. Sincerely Monica Cantrell

I am been having some trouble researching my 3rd great grandfather. His names was Charles Henry Peats. He was born in Henry County, Missouri on 13 March 1849. I cannot find him in any census until 1860 and he is living with a family with the last name of Brown, in Tebo Twp, Henry County Missouri. He is listed as attending school. He eventually moved to Indiana and stayed there until his death on 02 May 1921. I sent away for his death certificate, because I would really like to find out who his parents were and why he wasn't living with them. However, the death certificate lists his parents as UNKNOWN. I would appreciate any help or information on this family as I am at a dead end! Thanks for your time. Sincerely Monica Cantrell (Peats)

Hi Everyone, Thought this might be of interest and wanted to share it with you. A Visual Expression of History. Produced for over a century, more than 660,000 Sanborn Maps chart the growth and development of more than 12,000 American towns and cities. Sanborn Maps are large-scale plans of a city or town, drawn at a scale of 50 feet to an inch. They were created to assist fire insurance companies as they assessed the risk associated with insuring a particular property. The maps list street blocks and building numbers including numbers in use at the time the map was made and previous numbers. Also, if your public library or university library has subscribed, you may be able to access these maps online. You can find out more about this service by visiting Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970 (http://sanborn.umi.com/). Works well with Census Enumeration Maps. What the federal government has called maps, is actually a misnomer. When we hear the word maps, we think graphical images of the area of a town, county or state. In this case the research aid is actually descriptions of the enumeration districts. The key to working with any map and the enumeration district descriptions is to get a map of the city that is as close to the time period as possible. I hope this information helps. If you have problems or further questions please let me know. :-) Thanks, Mike ************************* Michael G. Thought I'd forward this message to the other MO Lists I'm on. Message-ID: <003901c1b0e3$d0a19640$0101a8c0@mshome.net> I recently purchased a wonderful cabinet card group photo off of eBay. This photo was taken by Thompson Bros. Photography of Bonne Terre/Flat River, therefore, I assume these folks are local to this area. Unfortunately, there are no markings which give a clue as to who the photograph was taken of or the date. This photograph appears to have been taken at either a family gathering or, possibly, at a church gathering since there appears to be a baby in a christening gown in the group. I would love to get this photo back to the family to which it belongs. If you can prove it belongs to your family, it's yours! Please check it out and see if anyone looks familiar.
