Clinton is a small town of about 6,000. Be sure to go to the Henry County Museum in downtown Clinton. It's very interesting. They have a website, too. I would make the court house your first place to go. They are most helpful with locating old records. I got an old platt map (1912?) which showed the location of cemetaries and the property which my ancestors owned. I found a lot of great stuff while there. I would definitely avoid staying at the Days Inn. I know there is a Best Western Colonial Inn and a Motel 8 there. Some of our group (we had a small reunion) moved from the Days Inn to a new motel in Clinton, but I can't remember the name. Eating was either BBQ, fast food or chain restaurants. We didn't make it down to Warsaw in Truman Lake, but it looks like there may be some nice restaurants there. Good luck with your research and enjoy cute little Clinton, Missouri! Margaret

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JKB.2ACE/119 Message Board Post: Are there any webpages with suggestions for genealogists visiting Henry County? My great grandfather lived in Deepwater, Henry County for a short time. He married my great-grandmother there in August of 1868. Would the county courthouse have records for that year? One of his children from his first marriage probably died there in November of 1870. Would there be any death records from that year? At least two of his brothers are buried in Bethlehem Cemetery. How tough is that to find for an out-of-stater? By 1877 I know he was in Vernon County, MO. Before he died in 1916, he had also lived in Salida, CO, Ogden, UT, Seattle, WA and Great Falls, MT. He was one restless man. Do any of the libraries have newspapers of that era? Any suggestions for places to stay or eat? Thanks in advance for the help. Barbara Mawdsley

Hello List, Different James line. Jesse James was born in Clay County, Mo., in 1847, son of Robert Sallee James and Zerelda Cole. They moved there from Logan County, Kentucky, circa 1840. Though it seems that every family with roots in Missouri has a story about "providing fresh horses to Jesse James", it is much more likely that what was provided (in those cases where the James boys did pay a visit) was hospitality, food, water and a rest for both horses and riders. I think Jesse and Frank JAMES could very well have been in that part of the country. My ancestor William JAMES was in Webster co, not too far away and was related to the JAMES boys. Dear Listers; I'm seeking information on my GGF William D. George b March 1849 MO (according to census records) and GM Mary Adaline (Garrett) George b Aug 9, 1878 Albert, (Gillespie Co.),TX. William was a cattle hand and worked on the Moss Ranch in Llano Co., TX prior to Sept 18, 1879 when he married Henrietta Solomon b 1861 GA (daughter of Godwin and Mary Jane Roberts)in Gillespie Co., TX. They had four children between 1880 and 1887, Wm. is recorded widowed, 1900 census. Their first child Wm. Lawrence George (my GF) born July 21, 1880 served in the U.S.A. and then the U.S.M.C. before marrying Mary Garrett, having their first child Waldorff George and moving to Maricopa Co., AZ. Wm. D. and Henrietta (went by Ettie) also had Euphamia, Enock and Francis. Wm. D. George sold his farm and moved across the co. to Willow City after his children had grown. There he built and operated a general store until it was destroyed by fire. No more in known of William D. George. His birth place in MO and my GM's parents and siblings are and have remained by blocks for years. Any suggestions, ideas or references will be very welcome, if you are researching this line or believe you could be related, you are strongly encouraged to reply. Dear Fellow Listers; I am seeking the birth place of my Great Grand Father, William D. George b March 1849 MO. I have gleaned this from Gillespie Co., TX census 1880, 1900, 1910. He does not appear on the 1920 census and I assume he was dead. In the 1870's William was a cattle hand on the Moss Ranch in adjacent Llano County, he fought Indians at the battle of Pack Saddle Hill and on Sept. 18, 1879 married my GGM Henrietta (Ettie) Solomon b 1861 GA. William was widowed by 1900 and Ettie's Mother, (the widow of Godwin Solomon b 1813 GA) Mary Jane (Roberts) Solomon b 1833 GA, moved onto the farm to tend the four children; William Lawrence (My GF b July 21, 1880) Euphamia, Enock and Francis George. By 1910 William had sold his farm and relocated across the county in Willow City. He there owned and operated a general store, until it was destroyed by fire. No more is known of William D. George. My block wall has been for years - his birth place. Any one researching this line or believing they may be related is encouraged to reply. David W .
