To: Stacy Smith Re: Thomas Shain I was raised around Gilman City but my mother's side came from around Eagleville. Genealogy research I have as a result of the work of an Internet cousin shows my ggggg grandfather as Moses Turpin (no other information). His daughter was Deliah Turpin b. March 1803. She married M. Lewis Coffey. Their daughter was Mary Ann Coffey b. 1824 in Green Co., KY d. 1876 buried Edwards Cem, Eagleville, MO. She married John L Cook. Mary Ann & John Cook would be my ggg grandparents. Anyway the connection I noticed was that you have Thomas Shain as b.Kentucky 1815 so I wondered if his mother, Mary Turpin and my gggg grandmother, Deliah Turpin Coffey were related. Also I know there are other Turpins from Bethany but I don't know the connection. So for whatever that info is worth.......that's it. Any feedback would be appreciated. Dennis Gutshall
Dennis, I don't have anything on Mary (Turpin) Shain other than that they moved from Kentucky to Sangamon County, Illinois sometime after Thomas Shain's birth in 1819. And my records show "The Turpin family presumably came from Yorkshire, England about 1655 and settled in Henrico county, VA. ...and some settled in S. C. The first record of this Turpin line is Mary Turpin born in S.C...no date on Mary's death". Sorry. Stacy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis L. Looking through my files, do you have a Henderson Cook or his daughter Melvina Cook(1861-1939), or a Norma May Cook in your tree? Melvina Cook married a John William Wion. Norma May Cook (b. 1928) married Guy Kelly. The Shain side of the tree is my husband's side, and the Wion/Kelly side is mine. Stacy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis L.
