    3. I found an article on the County Home in Bethany (for those of you talking about it a while back) Page 82 of "Zola's family and Friends ~ Harrison County, Missouri" by Zola (Nethken) Pointer. 1989 County Farm and Home The Harrison County Home for the aged was designed by Mr. R. J. Hirsch, Macon, Mo, and built in 1901 by John Scott and Sons for !10, 250.00. Heating was supplied by Soderman Heat and Power Co. For $1978.00. In April 1902 Andrew Cummins, Superintendent of Construction, reported the building complete as per plans and specifocations (sic). There were 35 rooms in the main building, located on an 180 acre farm, which was later expanded to 210 acres. The Home was located west of Bethany, near Bethany Falls. The first manager of the County Farm was John. I. Isreal. In December 1905, Reynolds D. Nickerson and Nannie Nickerson were named Superintendent and Matron of the County Home at a salary of $850.00 per year. In Dec of 1911, Lewis B. and Alice Smith were employed for $1000.00 a year and served until 1928. Bert and Kittie Nickerson served as Superintendent and Matron for 28 years, until Sept 15, 1958, when Don and Kathleen Hook were appointed.
