He married CATHERINE SHAIN October 17, 1841 in Sangamon, Illinois, daughter of JOHN SHANE and MARY TURPIN. She was born Abt. 1824 in Kentucky, and died Aft. 1850. Notes for CALDWELL DAVIS: Found in 1850 Sangamon County, Illinois Census Children of CALDWELL DAVIS and CATHERINE SHAIN are: i. MARY DAVIS, b. 1843. JOHN DAVIS, b. 1845. EMELINE DAVIS, b. 1847. Hi. You wouldn't happen to have any informaiton on Catherine Shain's parents, would you? I have that John Shain/Shane was born about 1780 near the mouth of the Kanawha River. (Where is this river?). John's parents were Edward and Mary Shain/Shane. John's wife, Mary Turpin was born 1786 in South Carolina (Do you have the actual date?) John was a livestock/land owner. After John Shain passed away, Mary (Turpin) Shain moved to Harrison County. I have a bit of information on John and Mary (Turpin) Shain's son, Thomas R. Shain, if you are interested. My husband is the 3rd great grandson of Thomas R. and Cynthia (Bridges) Shain.
