You are such an angel! I've done lookups in Daviess County and I know how much effort goes into these lookups! My gr gr grandparents were in Harrison Co on the 1880 census for Cypress Twp, Harrison Co. James Harrington and Nancy E (Campbell) MUPRHY. I'm guessing they lived there until JH's death in 1910. His parents were John and Dorcas (McClain) Murphy who moved into the area between 1839 and 1842, although they do not appear on the 1840 census and were divorced sometime between 1854 and 1870. In 1870 JH and Nancy were in Marion Twp of Daviess Co (although not yet married) and in 1850 JH and his parents were on the Daviess Co 27th Distr (Hugh Ferry) census, but I haven't found their families in the 1860 census. I'd assume JH and Nancy remained in Harrison Co since their sons, Fred and John H, appear on the 1900 census in Daviess Co but Harrington and Nancy aren't there. James Harrrington died in 1910 and in 1920 Nancy is living back in Daviess Co with her spinster daughter Daisy. Thank you in advance! There are no birth records in Mo. before 1883. The counties kept very poor records from 1883 to 1893. The state started keeping records in 1910 usually pretty good records. But before those dates the only thing you can do is use census, family bibles, newspapers, etc. ---------- > From: Charles Sharp <csharp@modempool.com> > To: MOHARRIS-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [MOHARRIS-L] Orville Griffin/1868/Bethany,Mo. > Date: Friday, September 07, 2001 1:17 PM > > Would appreciate a lookup of birth record of Orville Griffin.Born about > 1/7/1868 in Bethany,Harrison County,Missouri. I was in Bethany last month and the Genealogy Society has just about anything the Court House or Library has. Their phone number is 1-660-425-2459. They are very helpful. Would appreciate a lookup of birth record of Orville Griffin.Born about 1/7/1868 in Bethany,Harrison County,Missouri. Parents were James Griffin & Harriett Sharp. Any help would be greatfulle appreciated. Charles A.Sharp csharp@modempool.com
I know that the Bethany Library has some Genealogy information, but since the Library had to be moved (because of a fire, then from the building caving in) they put all the genealogy "stuff" in boxes, and don't plan on getting them out until they get a new building built. I don't think they have the blueprints done on the library, but when (or if?) they get moved into a new building and get the boxes unpacked, I would glady go there and see what I can find. Bethany has a Genealogical Society, and a web site. I would imagine if you e-mailed them they may be able to give you any information you want. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hi! I few years ago there was an article in the paper about the story of Lone Rock Church. It was intitled " 'Lone Rock' to Observe Centennial Memories" Rich history Still Remains For Now-Closed Church On Sunday, May 30, 1993 former member and friends of the Lone Rock RLDS Church will be convening for the observance of the Centennial Celebration of the Church...." Did anyone clip that article? My grandma did..well, she clipped MOST of it, but apparently didn't get the whole article. If you happen to have the article, I would like to ask you afew questions. I don't know which paper it would have been in. Probably in the Lamoni Chronicle? Around the end of May, first of June 1993. It looks like the article started on the front page, and carried over to another page. At the bottom of the second page (column 2) it talks about Uriah S. Bowen, "one of the active members of the church, who after giving generously of financial aid, time and labor, took sick and " That is where My copy ends. If someone has a copy, I would like to know what happened to my gg..grandpa Uriah Bowen. She has another clipping about the church entitled "Lone Rock Congregation" and that article isn't complete either...I wonder if maybe the two were in the same paper, and part of one was on the back of the other.... If anyone can help, please e-mail me. Thank you for your time, Stacy
