Hi Pam, I was wondering if you are related to the Gillespies in my husband's tree. From what his family says, James Gillespie b. abt 1813 in Ohio. m June 2, 1842 to Electa Richmond Poor. They had 10 children, one of which was James F, who married Mary Polley about 1889. (Mary was born in Bethany, Harrison county, Missouri). James and Mary had 13 children, one of which was Amos McKinley Gillespie b. May 9, 1896, Grant Twp, Missouri. d. Feb 27, 1966 in Ridgeway, Harrison county, Missouri. Amos married Ruby Mrytle SHAIN , and they had 9 children, one of wihch was my husbands' Grandmother, Wilma Ilene Gillespie. Wilma (b. Apr 29, 1920 in Ridgeway) married Garland COOTS. If any of this sounds familar, let me know--We would be intersted in seeing some photos of my husbands side of the tree. Hi. I don't have much on John Wesley Smith, other than that he was born at home. He married Alta Artessia Hook, the daughter of Sylvanus Asbery Hook and Marchie Carrie Brinton. Marchie was full blooded indian. Thier children were Everett Wesley (1912-1986), Mildred Maxine, Dywene, Melvin Keith, and Wilbur Lee Smith. John Wesley Smith's father was Either Thomas or Richard. That is all I have on John Wesley Smith. My husband was told by his grandfather, Everett Wesley Smith that the family had been in Harrison County for a long time, and the first one to move to Harrison County came as a trapper/hunter. When Everett was alive, no one in Randy's family was really involved in Family History, so they didn't ask Everett any quesitons. Does any of the names sound familiar? What part of Harrison County did your Smith's move to? Surnames: HOLLAND Submitter: Jean Pitts (pittsjean@hotmail.com) Date: 03 Oct 2001 I am looking for John Holland and family. He was born in Harrison county in 1850. Do you have any information on John. I would like the names and ages of children, etc. Also, John's wife's first name. Thank you, Jean Pitts
Hi Stacy, The common naming pattern is why I thought to ask about MEEK being a surname somewhere. It looks strange as a middle name to me, so I figured maybe it was a surname somewhere along the line. My grandfather Meek's mother died when he was only 8-months old and he was her only child. Then his father remarried and had several more children. I don't know much about those children yet, so I don't know if there were any Stephens so far. But since they were all in the same area, it's quite possible. I'm going to keep you on file though, and when I get more info I'll let you know. I appreciate you checking for me. Hi Pam. As of right now, I dont' have any Meeks in my tree. The one I mentioned below (George Meek Stephens) is my Great Great Grandfather. His father was William Stephens b. March 15, 1813 d. Sept. 25, 1893. I don't have any information on his (Williams) parents, but since the family often used a last name of a mother/grandmother as a middle name for their children, then maybe William's mother was a Meek. Do you have any Meeks married to a Stephen(s) in your tree?
