Hi. You wouldn't happen to have any informaiton on Catherine Shain's parents, would you? I have that John Shain/Shane was born about 1780 near the mouth of the Kanawha River. (Where is this river?). John's parents were Edward and Mary Shain/Shane. John's wife, Mary Turpin was born 1786 in South Carolina (Do you have the actual date?) John was a livestock/land owner. After John Shain passed away, Mary (Turpin) Shain moved to Harrison County. I have a bit of information on John and Mary (Turpin) Shain's son, Thomas R. Shain, if you are interested. My husband is the 3rd great grandson of Thomas R. and Cynthia (Bridges) Shain. Hello Lisa, I descend from George Davis as follows: George Davis and Blanche Anna Shain Thomas S. Davis and Matilda Miller Nancy Davis and Joseph Wardrip I have long thought that Caldwell Davis (b. 1814) was a brother, cousin, or relative of some sort of my George Davis (b. 1804). Caldwell Davis married Catherine Shain, younger sister of Blanche Anna Shain who married George. They all are found in Sangamon county, Illinois prior to George and Blanche moving to Harrison county, Missouri. I have never been able to prove this relationship, though. I, too, am searching for the parents of George Davis, and have been searching for around 17 years for them, but no luck thus far. I know of 3 others who are researching this George Davis, so this makes 5 of us now. Are there any others out there? Surnames: PORTER MOREY Submitter: Frances Porter (rfporter@qwest.net) Date: 04 Nov 2001 I am looking for information on the marriage of Oliver Porter and Vivian Theresa Morey in 1930/1931 in Harrison County. They were both from Iowa and went to either Bethany or Blythedale MO to get married. Can you please help me?
Charles, I would like to hear from you again regarding the FRANCIS & FULLER line of Madison Co., OH and Harrison Co., MO (and some of them went to IA). You said that your source of the FULLER information has passed away. Have you been able to find anything more on the first wife of James FULLER, father of my Ira "Matthew" FULLER? James FULLER (1804-1852) m. "Unknown" sometime bet. 1825-1829 probably Madison Co., OH. "Unknown" probably d. abt. 1832/1833 probably Madison Co., OH. James FULLER then m. Lucinda FRANCIS (1814-1912) Aug. 1, 1833 Madison Co., OH. The first wife was the mother of my Ira "Matthew" FULLER b. 1830 Madison Co., OH, and Olive FULLER b. 1832 Madison Co., OH. Going back one more generation... parents of James FULLER were Isaac FULLER (1775-1857) and Lucy TALBOT(?). Children of Isaac and Lucy TALBOT(?) were Arnold Wesley b. 1801, Olive b. abt. 1802, James b. 1804, Nancy b. abt. 1806, Shuble A. b. May 3, 1810, and Henry b. April 4, 1811. These children were all probably born in Chenango Co., NY. Lucy possibly died giving birth to Henry. Isaac FULLER then m. Lucy WARNER abt. 1824 Chenango Co., NY(?) and they went to Madison Co., OH. I know they had more than one child but I have just one listed: Isaac Armintus "Armitee" FULLER b. 1826 NY and d. Nov. 25, 1907 Appanoose Co., IA. Any further information on these families would be appreciated. Lisa, That William C. Molen, was what was in the marriage book. The original certificate was probably too hard to read and they came up with an "n" instead of a "r". I hope that's the right one. Thank you very much, Dennis. I connected 2 people in my database that I had with your marriage information: I had Victoria Jane FRANCIS b. May 28, 1854, dau of Cyrus Hendrix FRANCIS and Harriett WILLIAMS -- but I didn't have her marriage to Joel Noah MOLER (b. Dec. 7, 1849). William C. MOLER is father of Joel N. Hi Lisa, According to my Harrison Co., marriage books, Joel N. Moler married a Victoria J. Francis on Aug 14, 1872. No William Moler is listed but a William C. Molen (it might be Moler but to hard to read) married a Lucinda Fuller Nov 26, 1854. Dorothy, We definitely have a connection in our HARRIS, FRANCIS, FULLER, GARTON & MOLER families, although I am probably not directly related to your line. This is what I have that matches what you have: William MOLER b. abt. 1816. His first wife I have "unknown" and must be the Rebecca HARRIS you have. They had a son, Joel Noah MOLER, b. Dec. 7, 1849. That's the only child I have listed for that marriage, but I would like the other 3 childrens' names/dates please. Then William MOLER m. Lucinda FRANCIS sometime around 1853/1854 in Harrison Co., MO. She was b. June 7, 1814 Madison Co., OH and d. May 8, 1912 Bethany, Harrison Co., MO and is buried in the Monson Cemetery. I have one child for them: Josie MOLER b. Nov. 6, 1855 Harrison Co., MO. Lucinda FRANCIS was also m. to James FULLER on Aug. 1, 1833 Madison Co., OH. He was b. 1804 Chenango Co., NY and d. abt. 1852 in Mississippi River on way home from Gold Rush. I also have Josephine MOLER b. 1856 in IN who m. Christopher ARTHUR. He was b. 1846 in OH. I have 2 children listed for them: Charles ARTHUR b. 1866 and Herman ARTHUR b. 1868 - both b. in Harrison Co., MO. I haven't yet tied Josephine to the other MOLER's but I know that she is connected to them. I would like to know which Rebecca HARRIS (I'm sure it must be HARRIS and not WILLIAMS because of all the HARRIS connections to these other families) was William MOLER's first wife. The HARRIS's and FULLER's are my direct line. Laura and Donald - I forgot to say that I also have bare-bones information (names only) on Sherman Holland's father and grandfather. Let me know if you want it. Margaret --- Margaret Udell --- meudell1@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
To Laura Taylor and Donald Gossick - Sherman Dinsmore Holland's first wife, Fannie J. Moss (b. 5 April 1866), whom he married around 1885 in Mercer County, was my grandmother's sister. They had three daughters, Grace (b. Aug. 1886), Ila (b. 23 September 1892) and Annie (b. May 1899). Annie died as an infant, and Fannie died 12 May 1900. Sherman married Susan C. Moss, 8 May 1904 in Mercer Co. They had no children, but Susan was a loving stepmother to the two daughters, Grace and Ila. Although both wives had the same surname, Moss, I haven't been able to trace Susan. It may be that she was a widow, and if so her maiden surname is unknown. I do not believe she was a close relative of Fannie, because I have sizeable data on the Moss family. Sherman and Fannie's daughter Ila married Otis Edward (Jack) Smothers in 1908. They moved westward to Wyoming and later to Smithwick, South Dakota. They had only one child, Geneal Florence, who had only one son, Jack Dixon. I visited Jack and his wife in South Dakota a couple years ago, and Jack was more than generous with giving me copies of his copious records on the family, so the information I have given you above, is factual. If you want more information, even including Jack's children, I can give it to you, as well as Fannie Moss Holland's family and ancestry.
