Though, in the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census her birth year was 1873 and said she was born in Kansas or Missouri. Her parents were Alfred C. Lyons and Harriett (Hattie) Lyons. 2. Stacy Smith
    3. Hi Richard. I check the census, and found a Simon P. age 30 in 1860, with a son named Richard (age 6 b. Missouri) but the wife of Simon is not Francis in 1860, there is a Nancy age 26 listed. So, the names/ages match up, but it says Richard was born in Missouri. His Obit said they moved to Missouri in 1856 from Illinios, 2 years after Richard was born. 1. [MOHARRIS-L] Who were these Smiths?
    2. Stacy Smith
    3. Recently I visited the KIDWELL CEMETERY, in Harrison county, Missouri. A few of my Smiths were buried here: Laurilla Smith--Dau of James and Sarah RUSSELL--1899-1952 (She was buried next to her husband), Richard M. Smith Aug 12, 1854-Jan 13, 1908 Richard and Laurilla are buried beside thier sons Russell (1906-1935) and John Wesley. Ok, now for my question. Next To Richard and Laurilla's graves is a graved marked: SMITH S.P. Smith | Francis Smith Born | Born Mar 17, 1830 | Apr 22 1949 Died | Died 19 | Sep 20, 1905 Ok, who were these Smiths? They were the right age to be Richard's parents. Are they? Since there isn't a date for S.P. Smith, I wonder if he is buried somewhere else, and why? I have a copy of Richard's obituary, and it doesn't give a name for his parents. It just says that he came with his parents from the place of his birth (Illinios) to Harrison County, Missouri in 1856, and they located near Ridgeway. In 1865 the family moved to Nodaway County, Mo. near old "Sweet Home", where he grew to manhood. He married first Nancy FLETCHER of Claycounty, then married again (after Nancy's death) to Laurilla Russell, of Harrison County. (Also I have heard whispers of Richard's father being Simon Peter Smith, but haven't found any proof. So, the above S.P. Smith could be that of Simon Peter Smith) Thank you in advance for any light you can shine on these Smiths. Stacy (searching for the surnames: Green, McLaughlin, Wion, Jones, Truitt, and Stephen that came to Decatur county, IA, AND Stone, Elkins, Ward, Johnston/Johnson, Bowen, Gillespie, Coots, Shain, Polley, Clevenger, Hook, Bridges, Russell, and Smith that were in Harrison County, MO) Some say I am living in the past...I say "Naw just my computer is."

    1. [MOHARRIS-L] County Home in Bethany
    2. Stacy Smith
    3. I found an article on the County Home in Bethany (for those of you talking about it a while back) Page 82 of "Zola's family and Friends ~ Harrison County, Missouri" by Zola (Nethken) Pointer. 1989 County Farm and Home The Harrison County Home for the aged was designed by Mr. R. J. Hirsch, Macon, Mo, and built in 1901 by John Scott and Sons for !10, 250.00. Heating was supplied by Soderman Heat and Power Co. For $1978.00. In April 1902 Andrew Cummins, Superintendent of Construction, reported the building complete as per plans and specifocations (sic). There were 35 rooms in the main building, located on an 180 acre farm, which was later expanded to 210 acres. The Home was located west of Bethany, near Bethany Falls. The first manager of the County Farm was John. I. Isreal. In December 1905, Reynolds D. Nickerson and Nannie Nickerson were named Superintendent and Matron of the County Home at a salary of $850.00 per year. In Dec of 1911, Lewis B. and Alice Smith were employed for $1000.00 a year and served until 1928. Bert and Kittie Nickerson served as Superintendent and Matron for 28 years, until Sept 15, 1958, when Don and Kathleen Hook were appointed. The home wa closed April 30, 1963, when the last 21 reidents were moved to new quarters in Crestview Rest Home. On Feb 21, 1968 the Harriosn County Court approved the sale of the property, ending an era during which the Co. Govenrment assumed full responsiblity for the care of aged and impoverish residents. ~~~ Stacy
