My lineage is as follows: Daniel DE VAUL my g-g-g-g-grandfather James R DE VAUL my g-g-g-grandfather 1 child 1st union Philip’s mother unknown Philip Covington DE VAUL my g-g-grandfather m. Eliza KINYON 5 children, including: Sarah Elizabeth DE VAUL m. John Joseph SCOTT 10 MAR 1875, Trenton, Grundy, MO – my g-grandparents Their only child that I am aware of : Alwilda [named for an aunt] a/k/a Alice SCOTT b. Atchison, KS m. James William ETHRIDGE – my grandparents Their 3 children: Bessie Florence Ethridge [deceased] m. Mr. Potts four children LIVING Helen Ethridge [deceased] m. Stanley Fields [living] of Kansas City, MO two children LIVING Charles Harold Ethridge m. Mary P. Sheehan – my parents [both deceased] 3 of 4 children LIVING Nowhere can I find the name of Philip Covington De Vaul's mother. He was born 7 months before his father's (James R.) marriage to Sarah K. HOWELL. I get the impression he was a black sheep of the family; 1850 census has him living with WOODS family in Missouri [no relation to me]. I found that he joined the Union Army in the Civil War, was captured and sent to Andersonville, and survived, having been released April 1865. Right now I am thinking along the line that Philip Covington De Vaul may have been named for his maternal grandfather, even possibly the name Philip Covington. If anyone has any information on this lineage that they are willing to share, I'd be grateful to receive it. I have but a few additional dates on the above that I'm not listing right now. I'll gladly answer your questions, should you think I may be of assistance. Joyce Woods joycewoodz@yahoo.com
