Surnames: MCNEAL(MCNEIL),WILSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oMB.2ACI/578 Message Board Post: Seeking info. on the following family members: Samuel McNeal- Born 1819. Died sometime after the 1870 census.Listed as buried in the Sires Cemetery in Grundy county, Missouri with the following note-"a pioneer". Married Mary Ellen Wilson who was born 1829 in Lancaster, Ohio. Samuel McNeal(McNeil-alternate spelling) was shown in the 1840 and 1850 Lancaster, Ohio census first listed as a shoemaker born in Ky. After returning from the goldfields in 1850(he wrote a narrative of his adventures) he appears in 1850 Lancaster, Ohio as a farmer. The first appearance of him in Missouri was the 1860 census in Washington TWP in Grundy county. He was shown as a farmer. In 1870 he makes his last appearance in the 1870 Grundy county census in Washington TWP. Samuel McNeal was a member of the 2 Mo. Calvary -E company. His rank was farrier so I suppose he was somewhat of a blacksmith. I have requested his civil war pension files and service records. >From his oldest son Taylor McNeal's civil war pension file I found a list of all the children in the family. Elizabeth Ann -born 18 Nov. 1844 in Ohio Taylor -born 26 June 1846 in Ohio Blanche-born 26 Feb. 1848 in Ohio John-born 22 July 1849 in Ohio Ella-born 13 May 1851 in Ohio Samuel-born 3 Sept. 1853 in Ohio Florence-born 14 Apr. 1855 in Ohio Joseph-born 30 May 1858 in Ohio Boaz-born 4 Feb. 1860 in Missouri Grant-born 15 July 1864 in Missouri Harry-born 7 Feb. 1866 in Missouri Drake-born 6 Sept. 1869 in Missouri This was given to the government from the family bible in 1869 to further a pension claim for Taylor. The 1870 census shows one additional child-Charles C,-born August 1870 in Missouri per the census taker. Any additional information would be appreciated. Sincerely yours, James E.
