He then left the ministry and for a short time, in 1895-1896, served as Professor of Greek at Avalon College in Trenton, Missouri, which also awarded him the D.D. degree in 1896. With the college failing, and in poor health, in December 1896 he moved to Monett, Missouri, where he died May 13, 1897. He was born November 20, 1836, in Lawrence Co., Indiana, the youngest child of Samuel and Elizabeth (PICKARD) CRAWFORD. He married Emma VANNUYS April 3, 1862, in Franklin, Indiana. They had 7 children, six of whom were living at the time of the 1880 Census: Mary (1864), Edward P. (1867), Francis A. (1869), Grace (December 1870), Ralph W. (1874) and Roland (November 1879). At the time of the 1900 Census, Emma V. CRAWFORD and her unmarried daughter, Grace, were still living in Monett, Pierce Twp., Lawrence Co., Missouri. I am interested in finding out what happened to the rest of Dr. CRAWFORD's family. Are there surviving newspapers from the time, from either Monett or Trenton, containing obituaries that might indicate where the other children were living? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
