    1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Old City Cemetery
    2. Jorge Awapara
    3. Dear list, I have just heard from someone who visited Trenton that the Old City Cemetery is in absolutely deplorable condition with weeds three feet high. He mentioned that there was a sign which indicated that they were honoring the original settlers of Trenton by letting their final resting place go to its natural state. I hope that was a sarcastic criticism of the condition of the cemetery. Who in the world could one contact in Trenton to find out if there isn't any group of folks there who care enough about the original settlers or history of the area to do something about that cemetery? Many of the original settlers of the area are buried there I understand, and many of those contributed to the city in donations of money as well as land for things such as the railroad going through the area early on. Others helped form the first churches, etc. Is there any group with a sense of history who might get involved in doing something about the cemetery? Is there an Historical Society which may raise funds for projects such as cleaning up and mowing and seeing that this old historical site is maintained? 1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Bain/Bayne/Munn/Kelso
    2. Andrea
    3. I am looking for information on the Bain family. They seem to have been in Grundy County from at least 1839 to at least 1880. I believe the father Rieson Bayne died and was buried in Proctor Cemetery in 1839. It seems that he may have been the first person listed that was buried in this cemetery? Does anyone have any information on the history of this cemetery? I believe they came from Ohio. (possibly Monroe County) Rieson had at LEAST two sons. Jacob and Jesse. Jacob married Adaline Munn in 1848 in Grundy County and they had at least 9 children. (One of the Nine - Charles Albert Bain is the line that I am descended from) I show them in the census' in 1850 and 1870 and then it SEEMS that Adaline is without Jacob in 1880. (The name in the census is different but with her name being so odd it seems that every year it is written down as something completely different) His brother Jesse married first a Catharine sometime before 1846 and had at least 2 children. He then married a Mary and had at least 4 more children. I show this family in the census' in 1850, 1860 and 1880. I am curious about another Bain - Oliver. Was he another brother. Jacob and Adaline lived next to the Kelso's in 1850 and there was an Oliver Bain who married Mary Jane Kelso for a short time. They had a son but divorced after two years. I would like to find any connection here also. Any more specifics anywhere would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! andrea

    3. Hi Sandra, and anyone connected to any persons here mentioned. I see you are in Laredo Mo. Boy am I happy to find someone close to and in same area of my ROOKS. I am from Joseph Rooks, b 1782 in NC mar Apr 1807 in Clinton Co Oh to and Elizabeth Jackson . b 1789/90 in Stokes Co N C. They had 15 ch and lived in Clinton Co Oh first and went to Randolph Co Ind abt 1821?, then to Grundy Co Mo around Lindley and Galt and Loredo, Marion TWP, Mo. abt 1838?, They died in grundy Co Mo. Joseph in 1869 and Elizabeth in abt 1880. They were my 3rd grt gran parents. one of their son's, William ( called BILLIE), b 1817 mar Mahala Smithson in 1837 in Randolph Co Ind and also went with a number of siblings and other ch of Joseph and Elizabeth to Grundy when Joseph got a big amount of Land by land Grant there. William and Mahala ( b 1814 Clinton Co Oh) , my grt grt granaparents had 6 ch and they are all on 1850 Grundy Co Marion Twp Mo. census. . Namely, Isaac, Louisa, Harrison, Smith, Allen, and Millie Maxine Rooks, my grt gran mother. all born between 1838 and 11 Oct 1846. Mahala, their mother died abt 1855 as told by grt granma , Millie but not sure she was right. as other things such as she said she was born in St Joseph Mo. but not true as she was b in Grundy Co Mo as were all but Isaac b in Randaolph Co Ind and Louisa b in Clinton Co Oh, Mahala could have died after 1855 up to 1859 as not on 1860 census with Wm, Smith, Allen and Millie and a lady name of Martha who is 30 yrs as possibly housekeeper. Does not say who she is on census. nor give a surname for Martha. No mar found of Wm 43, and the Martha ???. Also some are still on 1960, census. Wm Smithson and Millie Mildred Murrell were Mahala's parents and were living in Randolph Co In., then in Clinton Co Oh during the 1800's when they died in 1860's. there. I was told by a man name Rooks in Galt by ph in 1996 that Wm . ( Billie) Rooks, left there prob abt spring 1862 and took Millie Maxine the youngest dau with him and never told anyone he was leaving nor where he was going and never contacted anyone back there after. No one ever knew where he went. or what happened to them. He went to Susanville, Lassen Co Ca as I have found out and died there 14 Sep 1875. as I went to Susanville, Ca two times. and went into Court Records and library and found the Brannan's and William Rooks. Millie age 16, mar 11 Oct 1862 in Susanville, Ca to Emanuel "Mike" Brannan age abt 34 b 1828 in Dearborn Co Ind. went to Jackson Co Ind with parents in abt 1829. Millie and her family and dad, Wm left Susanville abt 1864 and went toBenton Co Ore to Corvallis area. Wm went back to Susanville in Sep 1875 to repay money $500.00 he owed someone and got ,believe phnemonia and died and bur there. Sherrif ordered the sale of his belongings to pay Dr bill and burial. he had worked and saved the money to repay debt. This is in Court records there. Since you live in the Lindley area, maybe you are related to some of the Rooks as many descendants still live there but with varying different surnames due to marriages into, Ishmael, Chrisman, Mc Alister, Holloway, Snodgrass, Scott, and many other names there. Just ask anyone you meet if they had ancestors that were there in middle of 1800's and maybe you will find your Brown's may be connected back then or after to one of these Rooks descendants. I am also looking for the Isaac, Smith, and Allen Rooks yet. I found Harrison in Clinton Co in Civil War and mar and lived had family in Darke Co Oh and mar in Darke Co Oh. where he died. Also Louisa mar Joseph (Joel) Boring in Clinton Co Oh moved abt 1888/9?? to and lived in Mercer Co and Van Wert Co Oh where she died Jan 1918 and Joel died Sep 1919 in Ohio City , VanWert Co Oh and are bur there.. A dau Ida Boring mar a Simon Butler in Van Wert Co oh 1890, and some of her siblings also mar there and are connected to some Worthern's.. by marriage. Millie Maxine Rooks Brannan mar. as stated before here and ended up in Ore. and in Colfax, Whitman Co Wa where she died 30 oct. 1925 and Mike in 1913 and are both buried in the Colfax cem. Millie had 11 surviving ch and i son died who was a twin to my Granmother , Effie Cora Brannan, b 23 May 1883 in Bend ,Deshutes Co Ore. I am Maxine Mae( Baldwin ) Brooks ,Wilton and will appreciate anthing and meeting any descendants there via Snail Mail or E Mail. and exchange gen and pictures. I have not found when, ( date) that Mahala Smithson Rooks died or where she is buried and maybe some descenant has this. Millie said she died when she was 9 yrs old and that she and her dad left then for Ca. But I have proved a number of things she told and left the family are wrong memory of her since she was only 15 when she left Grundy Co Mo. She never even left the names of her siblings and no one has any record that we know of ,of them. in the descending Brannan family, I got imfo from 1860/ 1860/ and 1870 and 1880 and 1900 and 1910 census on them. in Grundy Co Mo , Clinton Co Ohio, Mercer, Van Wert and Darke Co's Ohio. so far but need to find the missing 3 sons of Wm and Mahala. You say John Ralston married your Eliza Jane on 28 Dec 1879. John and Eliza Jane are listed on the 1880 Grundy Co, MO census, along with Eliza Jane's children. I haven't yet found Rebecca Ralston and children on the 1880 Grundy Co, MO census. I think John/Rebecca were living in Henry County, Indiana in 1850 and that Rebecca was perhaps Rebecca Flowers. 3. Hello list, My mother sent me the following obituary of Rose Mary Carter-- the funeral was last week. I don't know if we're connected or not, but our family name is Powell and there are some Powell siblings listed for her (perhaps step-siblings). Does anyone recognize them, or have more information? My Powells are from Mercer Co (migrated from Ohio via Iowa ca. 1850s)., but there are a couple of different Powell families in Mercer and Putnam Cos. Of course, they might be cousins to each other, but I don't know yet. I would love to make a connection with someone out there. Thanks in advance, Robert J. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MCNEAL(MCNEIL),WILSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oMB.2ACI/578 Message Board Post: Seeking info. on the following family members: Samuel McNeal- Born 1819. Died sometime after the 1870 census.Listed as buried in the Sires Cemetery in Grundy county, Missouri with the following note-"a pioneer". Married Mary Ellen Wilson who was born 1829 in Lancaster, Ohio. Samuel McNeal(McNeil-alternate spelling) was shown in the 1840 and 1850 Lancaster, Ohio census first listed as a shoemaker born in Ky. After returning from the goldfields in 1850(he wrote a narrative of his adventures) he appears in 1850 Lancaster, Ohio as a farmer. The first appearance of him in Missouri was the 1860 census in Washington TWP in Grundy county. He was shown as a farmer. In 1870 he makes his last appearance in the 1870 Grundy county census in Washington TWP. Samuel McNeal was a member of the 2 Mo. Calvary -E company. His rank was farrier so I suppose he was somewhat of a blacksmith. I have requested his civil war pension files and service records. >From his oldest son Taylor McNeal's civil war pension file I found a list of all the children in the family. Elizabeth Ann -born 18 Nov. 1844 in Ohio Taylor -born 26 June 1846 in Ohio Blanche-born 26 Feb. 1848 in Ohio John-born 22 July 1849 in Ohio Ella-born 13 May 1851 in Ohio Samuel-born 3 Sept. 1853 in Ohio Florence-born 14 Apr. 1855 in Ohio Joseph-born 30 May 1858 in Ohio Boaz-born 4 Feb. 1860 in Missouri Grant-born 15 July 1864 in Missouri Harry-born 7 Feb. 1866 in Missouri Drake-born 6 Sept. 1869 in Missouri This was given to the government from the family bible in 1869 to further a pension claim for Taylor. The 1870 census shows one additional child-Charles C,-born August 1870 in Missouri per the census taker. Any additional information would be appreciated. Sincerely yours, James E.
