    3. Dear Listers, Regarding our recent conversations about the City Cemetery, I did write to Mayor Tim Whitaker about it and received a reply from him Here is what he said... He said that the City of Trenton was equally concerned about the condidtion of the cemetery. He said that for the past several years the Missouri Dept. of Conservation has been involved in assisting to burn off the prairie grasses every 2 to 3 years. They feel that that is definitely too long to wait and that there is the possibility of cracking the headstones by burning off the grasses. He went on to say that they had received numerous calls about the upkeep of the cemetery and have been in contact with the Department of Conservation about the matter. It is the plan of the City of Trenton to take over the upkeep on the cemetery. This means that they will be mowing the grasses and keeping all weeds and other thorns from growing up around the headstones. He ended by saying that they hope by taking over the upkeep that it will keep the City Cemetery looking presentable for the town and visitors. THANK YOU MR WHITAKER!!! Harriet Murphy Awapara Researching: Murphy/Wiggins/Merrill/MC Coy/Ringer/Ware Does anyone know of a Mary and William Ringer? 1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Bennett, Ball, Etherton--Grundy, Ray, Daviess Counties
    2. Hello, I am looking for a connection between any Bennett, Ball, or Etherton families in Grundy, Daviess, or Ray Counties. I found the following family in the 1870 Missouri census......all found in Washington Twp, Edinburg town.....Robert Bennett age 72 with Delphia Bennett age 30, Benjamin Bennett age 5, Mary Bennett age 3, and John Etherton age 15.......I would like to find out who this John Etherton is. Perhaps a stepson, farm hand, nephew, etc.....??? Delphia is next found in Daviess County in 1876 when she marries John Ball, who is 16-17 years younger than she is. Then in 1880 John and Delphia Ball and Benjamin, and Mary Bennett along with John and Delphia's 2 sons, Virgil and Clarence Ball are all found in Ray County. Benjamin marries in Ray County in 1882 to Sarah Livingston. I have no idea who John Ball's parents are, but I did find a James Ball in the 1860 Daviess County Census with wife Martha and son John W age 14 along with siblings Margaret, Lucretia, William, and Folier. It is very possible that this might be my John Ball. Does Anyone know anything about any of these people? I apologize for any duplicate messages. This will be sent to the 3 different mail lists. Any help at all will be appreciated. Patsy Turner Carnoali

    1. [MOGRUNDY-L] 'Black Dutchman' query
    2. Robert J. Powell
    3. Hi list-- According to my grandmother, one of the few things she knew about her grandfather Christopher 'Kit' Collins (1871-1947) was that people referred to him as a 'Black Dutchman'. She wasn't sure what that meant, except that he was supposed to have been tight with his money. I do know that he married into a Pennsylvania German family (the Clingingsmiths, who had come to Grundy Co. and may have been German-speakers), but I have heard a lot of different stories about what a 'Black Dutchman' might be. Has anyone out there heard this term, and do they know what it was supposed to mean in Grundy County a few years back? Christopher Collins's father (Isaac Milton Collins) was an orphan, and he may have been part Indian-- was 'Black Dutchman' ever used to describe those who had Indian in them? I've never been able to find out who Isaac Collin's parents were, and maybe that's why. In the old family photos, they are fairly dark, but I just don't know... Anyway, thanks for any help! Robert J. Is Jacob the same man as Henry or are they brothers? Other relatives? Is Rachel the same as Rissa or are they sisters? I descend from William Harper who married Nancy Ratliff. He is the son of Leonard and Polly. Would like to fill in his brothers and sisters. Dann Norton
