    1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Rooks/Boring/Smithson/ Smith/Please correct GenealogyWCFT
    2. Maxine Wilton
    3. Hello Listers & Descendants, I am like you. I have helped many find lost family members. Find lost Ancestors and descendants, many many times. You may have seen some of my etc ref; to these. I have also asked for assistance in my search for solving Gen problems of which I have a big SUCH delima problem in Ohio just now. I am now getting some great wonderful help on my problem created by some mistakes when my family member died in 1918 in Van Wert Co Oh.Ohio. Namely my Louisa Elizabeth ROOKS b 6 Oct 1839. Proving my Grt Grt Aunt Louisa ROOKS is not a SMITH. has been finding proof of her descendncy and descenandts , and parentage. and more. I beleive that >the person that put her descendency which is correct and the Ancestry >which is NOT CORRECT to the JOHN and Jane Slagle SMITH of Whitley Co Ind 1850 census in to WCFT several weeks ago. Possibly hadn't obtained proof of mar to a Joseph ( Joel) Boring in Clinton Co. Oh unless by some quirk there still is out there the same persons only with name of Smith on marriage . lic and cert. Unk but checked and none found. by me. The name listed of Smith for maiden name was incorrectly stated that was listed in Louisa's funeral notice by the Newspaper. Van Wert Oh Times of 1918. ALSO possibly without PROOF of My LOUISA ROOKS born in Clinton Co Oh, being a SMITH by Birth. of which she was NOT: and therefore there can not be any such proof, as her mother as I have proof of, was Mahala Smithson and father was William Rooks. and she was also born in GREENE TWP , Clinton Co Oh. So many similarities are carried wrongly in this imfo. GREENE TWP listed as GREENE CO, Oh. SMITHSON surname of Mother mistaken for Louisa's maiden name and shortened to Smith, and given to newspaper as Cemetery has ROOKS as maiden name. A dau of the Smith's also named Louisa and b in 1839. but on 1850 census of Whitley Co Ind same time as and Louisa Rooks b 1839 on 1850 on census of Marion TWP in GRUNDY CO MO was with her correct Parents the Wm and Mahala Smithson ROOKS. 1 proof, I have Louisa's ROOKS mar cert as Proof mar to Joseph Boring. and also , 2 .. proof, Ida's , a dau. b in Clinton Co. Oh in 1874, Birth as Louisa ROOKS mother and JOSEPH BORING father. >Sent this imfo and still the wrong imfo was put in to WCFT. >NOW WHAT do I DO about this?????? >I am getting more proof, 3 proof, already proof where her death record in Ohio has been recorded in >the Cemetery Book ,her name as LOUISA ROOKS. (now 3 proofs). 4 and 5....Proofs I also have several >more of mar. of several ch in Clinton Co Oh with mother as Louisa ROOKS. Now that is 5 proofs and 7 Proof, I have 1850 census w/ Joel (Joseph) Boring with parents, and 1860/70/80/ census of Clinton Co Oh listing the Joseph ( Joel) Boring with Louisa and their children, 5 of them., William Calvin b 1860 Dec., Arminta ( Minta), Ida, Clara, Sarah. I also have more Gen on most all of them etc some descendants. I am after more. >What would you do .??? 8 proof... More marriages in Ohio, 9.... Plus found a Elizabeth Boring ( mar.) and living close by , who is a sister to Joseph ( Joel) Boring living in same area as a bro. of his wife, Louisa Rooks, Boring, name William Harrison Rooks, I also found all living at same time .these Borings/ Rooks were living so they had to have been in comunication with each other in 1800's into 1900's. Any suggestions how else to solve this and get the wrong imfo removed from WCFT. THis shows not to trust all imfo put into these posting sites as they could have mistakes in them. Please when there are questions unresolved about Genealogy, don't post into these sites as causes others later on many problems.. If you do and find it incorrect , later , please, please do all a favor and correct it as soon as discovered. Also it is best to have proof of marriages and other vitals before posting or state imfo is questionable. by ???? etc. Any replies please direct them to my E Mail please. Hope this helps all doing research on these families. as well as my own lines. Maxine Wilton. Thank you all for replies. forthcoming. mmwaw@sprynet.com

    1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Renfro Family 1871 Grundy Co.
    2. Hi List Members, I received the following message in my email this morning. As I am a Renfro researcher I found this most interesting! Anyone know anything about this Renfro family? The names of other family members? Or children? Your help would be much appreciated! Nancy Newspaper microfilm from the Jewett Norris Library- Genealogical section at Trenton, Missouri. Newspaper issued on Thursday, August 17, 1871: This article states" ..James Renfro drew his revolver and shot (Samuel) McNeal. McNeal then drew his and shot at Renfro who started to run, McNeal after him. He chased him about a mile (both on horse back) when he fainted and fell off his horse- was taken into a house and died shortly afterward. Deputy Sheriff Swayze went out after Mr. Renfro Sunday evening. He gave himself up without making any effort to get away......the examination of Renfro is going on at the courthouse. I found Samuel McNeal's grave in the Sires Cemetery north of Trention about 8 miles. Seeking additional court records on this case. Any ideas how to proceed?

    1. [MOGRUNDY-L] Stucker Cemetery/JANES FAMILY
    2. Jana P Thomas
    3. Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows if the Stucker Cemetery in Grundy Co is still in operation? I tried locating a phone number for them but came up with nothing. There is a burial there, or should I say a stone with the name Mary A. Janes who died in 1880. There also is a stone for her in Shinnston Cemetery in Shinnston WV. This IS the same person. Sometimes I have found that a person will already have a stone in one cemetery before they die, much like today especially when the first spouse dies, they erect a ddouble stone with both persons name inscribed. Mary Ann's husband died many years before she did. She then moved to Grundy Co. Mo and lived with her son John T. Janes and his wife Rosa Smith Janes. Rosa is also buried in Stucker Cem. I am having a hard time believing that in 1880 Mary Ann's body was shipped back to WV for burial AND also have a stone in Stucker Cem. I believe she is in Stucker Cem and her name was engraved beside her husbands in the Shinnston Cem. Has anyone heard of this before? And can anyone provide and info on the Stucker Cem, like a telephone number? Any help would be appreciated Thanks, Jana Jaynes Thomas

He died in 1871 and is buried in Sires Cemetery in Trenton, Missouri under a cedar tree. His tomestone is badly eroded and leaning. No marker is shown denoting his civil war service. I am FWD this to this site as My 3rd Grt Granfather, Anderson and Mary Byler White, is mentioned and he lived there in Sherman area in 1800's. and started a cem that flourishes today with Hall name. I am proud of the help of all who have kept this cem over the many yrs, 147 abt yrs. Those who added to the 2 acres Anderson donated and to bury our families in, took care of it, put his name with the monument and dedication some years back. God Bless all of you now today and in the future ,who care for all the many graves there and especialy all 167 plus of my ancestors burried there. None will ever have to be moved and this Cem will never have to go through what the below Cem is today. I also have Ancestors in Grundy Co Mo,Marion Twp, Lindly, Galt, Trenton etc. The Rooks descendants, who also will not have to go through what the below Cem is today. I also had a small hand in this saving from desert ways. Thanks to the City of Trenton and all who took up the stand . Another of my 3rd GRT Grparents also in Grundy, Joseph and Elizabeth ROOKS. The 2nd Mo. Cav. also known as Merill's Horse, is a very famous cavalry unit. Col Merill decided at the beginning of the war that a saber was only "good for cooking meat over a fire" and he got his men issued side arms. The standard cavalry carbine was a muzzel loader and was fired once and then it hung on a leather belt that was over the soldiers shoulder. With 7 shots, a 2nd Mo. trooper was far ahead of others. Also, Col. Merill had each company in is unit ride different colored horses. He could tell at a moments glance who was where on the battlefield. The 2nd spent much of the war searching out southen guerillas, noteably William Quantrill, Bill Anderson and others. The united was disbanded on Sept 19th, 1865 in Chattanoog, TN. I have a copy of Col. Merril's fairwell speech to his men. Change the dates and it would work today for men who had just fought a war. I also have a list of engagements and the number of men and officers that died in the war. They spent a lot of t! ime in Missouri and Arkansas in minor engagements but fought for 30 days to take Littlerock, AK. My great grandfather was wounded in this battle. The men litterly wore their uniforms totaly to rags after riding for 30 days.It is known that one of the men from the 2nd was at Lee's surrender at Appomotax. I do not know if any more were present. There is a file at the Missouri Historical Library in St. Louis on the 2nd Mo. I would think that your wifes great grandmother would have filed for a widow's pension unless she remarried. You might check. My great grandmother drew untill 1929 when she died. There was a book written some years back on the 2nd but it is out of print and I cannot locate a copy. There may be a copy at Fort Scott, Kansas as they have all the history of all the army cav. units. I have been told that they have a book with the Littlerock battle story in it. Good luck in your search and I hope I have helped you a little. Lee Jimwhitney1716@aol.com wrote: Dear Lee: I saw your posting on Missouri Civil War Military Queries in Rootsweb. I am also searching for info. on the 2 Missouri Cav. Union army. I have discovered some private letters stating that my wife's great, great grandfather Samuel McNeil(McNeal) served in the 2 Regiment Missouri Cav. , Company E known as Merrill's Horse. He re-enlisted on Feb. 17, 1862. The National Archives has recently been sent a request for service record on this Union soldier. He died in 1871 so he did not ever file for pension. His family lived in Trenton, Grundy county, Missouri from 1858-1870s. Do you know much about this unit? I have not found any internet posting showing a muster roll. Ancestry.com shows this soldier as a ferrier which is a horse shoe man. Makes sense after all it was a Cav. unit. Sincerely yours, James E. Whitney, II Atlanta, Ga.

Note: some names used for census 1 time was middle names and other times were first names as by yr's of birth. 1. Mary J b in 1871 is not on 1890 census so is probably "JOSIE" ROOKS ( in Darke Co Marriages) who mar 16 Apr 1891 to W H. Burke in Darke Co Oh. 2. Jacob Ellsworth also just used the name Ellsworth on some census. He mar 26 Nov 1907 to Jessie Fern Wallace in Darke Co Oh. 5.. Catherine showed up only on the 1900 census and was found in mar. records with parents names as the Wm H. Rooks. Catherine mar. 28 Feb 1910 to J J Fulton in Darke Co Oh. 3.. Elizabeth J is most likely as of birth date, Jane E. as on some Censuses. Elizabeth did not marry and no profeession was listed for her in Census Records , also always on census with parents every yr till their deaths and she died single bur same place as parents. 5.. Geneve was listed as a teacher in several Censues and never mar., was found with parents untill after death of mother Sarah Rooks and then she is in Troy, Miami Co. Oh just a few miles from the parents home she had lived in Arcanum, Darke Co. She died in Columbius Oh prob in hosp. but is also bur in same cem with Parents. at Abbottsford Cem.,Union Twp. Darke Co. He was not in Darke Co Oh. on 1900 census and is beleived to have moved to Troy area also where Genevive went after mother's death or 1920. ?? More is to be searched to further put all this together. NOTE: With Van Wert Co in North west side of Oh, and Mercer Co adjoining just so. and Darke Co adjoining Mercer Co just South and Miami Co adjoining Darke Co on east side of Darke Co. it is evident to me that William Harrison Rooks and family members, and Louisa and Joseph (Joel) Boring and family and Ida Boring Butler and family must have known each other during these yrs or why else would Louisa Rooks and Wm H. Rooks and maybe several other unfound yet bro's of Louisa be in the same area, same time period. ??? I did find more Rooks in Darke Co same time and believe they may connect to yet another brother. Isaac, Smith or Allen all b in 1840's. Will be checking these and other Co's for them now. Maybe someone who has pictures that were taken in the time period that belonged to Louisa and Joel, or dau. Ida Butler, of Ohio City ,and or W, H Rooks will be identified or have some of these names on them, or be unknown's to descndants. I have no doubt that Louisa with Smith name on death cert. is in reality, Louisa Rooks Boring. I have proof so far with her name as parent of Ida Boring b 1874 and Mar Cert. for Louisa Rooks and Joseph Boring 22 feb 1860 in Clinton Co Oh. This is just some of imfo I have now from this last 60 days of new research. Have much more to do. 1. get death Cert's on the Rooks family, Butler family, mar cert's on these also. 2. Get Funeral notices for those above and others as find them. 3. Check for Schools Jacob and Geneve taught school in. 4. As far as the Smith family that is connected to Louisa , I believe that their dau Louisa b 1839 and on the 1850 cenus as 11 yrs. woud been abt 16 when the family was in Galena Kansas where oldest son lived, and I beleive we can find her marriage to someone there. Her fa. John went to Ca abt 1855 from Galena Ks and never returned. By 1860 her mo , Jane Slagle Smith, was in Delaware Co Ind working as a seamstress I beleive, Then after 1860 census sometime later she left and went back to Galena Ks to spend the rest of her day's with oldest Son, John where she died. after that. We need to search mar records for Ks and Ind.and find Louisa Smith as I'm sure she married there. or in Delaware Co Ind before 1860. In 1860, Peninah and Levi are in Guthrie Center Iowa next to Peninah's daughter, Millicent Pickering. Peninah died shortly after that census was taken. In 1861 Joseph is enlisted in the Union army in Rolla Mo. and mustered in at Guthrie Center Iowa. He was discharged in 1863 in Louisiana. Joseph Addison Bailey is my great grandfather and he lived 30 years in Spokane Washington. Martin Luther is said to have died in Libby prison. Jonathan also is listed in Spickard Missouri. I was looking up information on the 1870 census, because I wanted to see if Joseph came to visit in Missouri before heading west. But the 1870 census for Missouri is still not searchable...I cannot find a resource for an automatic search. Any information or corrections would be helpful....
