James is noted in the 1850 Grundy Co., MO Census, DW 402, as a 35 Y/O Blacksmith from KY with his 2nd wife Martha Wild and three children (Louisa, Columbus, Martha) from his 1st marriage. James was 1st married to Martha Louisa Miller on 8 Jan 1838, Hardin Co., KY. Accorting to Hardin County marriage records, Rachel Miller (Martha's mother) witnessed the marriage. Now, Living next to James Hall in the 1850 census is the family of James Ross (63 Y/O from PA) and his wife Rachel (50 Y/O from KY). Also in the household is 20 Y/O Thomas Miller from KY. I suspect that the 50 Y/O Rachel Ross is the former Mrs. Rachel Miller (Mother of Martha Louisa Miller) and that James Ross is her 2nd husband. The Thomas Miller in their household might have been a son from her first marriage. Lastly, you mentioned a 12 Y/O Marietta Hall in the hous! ehold of James Ross (age 70/VA) and Rachel (age 50/KY). I believe this "Marietta Hall" may be Martha Hall (b. 1848) who was a daughter of James Hall and Martha Miller. While their is a circumstantial case for this tie-in between my Halls and this Ross family, I would very much like to find some proof. If possible, can I get you look back at the 1860 census for Grundy and see if the family of James Hall is listed. If so, are they next to or near the Ross family you previously looked-up? Also, if the Halls are listed, is 12 Y/O daughter Martha missing from the household? Any help you or anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated. James

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oMB.2ACI/627 Message Board Post: Hi fellow genealogists! I’m a genealogist just like you are. This is kind of long, but well worth reading! I found a way to use FOIA in genealogy to request records that actually results in moving your search along. In my every day professional work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. The FOIA is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. Using the proper request, the proper form, a properly worded letter you will get the documentation you are seeking. I received 84 pages in the first probate request, two weeks later, an additional 124 pages. All stuff they copied from microfiche. At $ .10 per page. Some of these records went back to 1838. I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), the request letter, what you need to send them in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes and codes that you will need to reformat the request form for your particular State or the State you are sending the request to. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. For those of us who have been unable to get to an out-of-town location or to afford a researcher it's great. My email is genealogyprincess@hotmail.com or klawler@batorberlin.com. Please only use these for responses. I’ll be happy to answer questions! I will be happy to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. Any other requests for help, I will send a form. I am requesting $6.58 for paper, copying, assembly, large envelope, and postage costs. This package of information is 22+ pages (and growing) -- and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!). So, if you’re interested, send $6.58, personal check is ok, [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal address [checking] for $7.00 to Genealogyprincess2000@yahoo.com. Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I’ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. This is strictly to get you information that will help you gather documents and information to further your search for your ancestors. Thanks! Kathleen Lawler

Eliza Anna BUNKER was actually living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mrytle and Eldon HUNTER, the last few years of her life until she passed away. Helen (Munn) HORN's family lived within walking distance and Helen's daughters and son visited their grandmother often. Her son Harold MUNN and his wife also lived near by. Another son, Denny MUNN and his family also lived in California about that time. Bob, thanks for all the great information, it confirms some of what I've been finding on the BUNKER/PORTER relations.

Is anyone tracing a McCammon family in Grundy County? Mary Ann McCammon was Zachariah's Hobb's first wife and the mother of John, Norris and William. She died around 1871. Later Zachariah married Mary Hartman. What happened to Mary McCammon? Who were her parents? Would like to hear from anyone tracing any McCammons. Debbie
Hi! Looking for anyone with info on the Ishmael and Martin line. I have Benjamin Franklin ISHMAELb. 1829 in KY, married Rosannah MARTIN, b. 1839 in Ohio, in Grundy County, Missouri Sept. 2, 1858 Solomon ISHMAEL, b. 1818 in KY, married Elizabeth MARTIN, b. 1844 in Indiana, in Grundy County, Missouri March 7, 1861. The above ISHMAEL's are brothers, and the MARTIN's are sisters. Then I have George Aucker MARTIN, b. 1838 in Ohio, married Mary E. ISHMAEL, b. 1850 in MO, in Grundy County, Missouri May 12, 1867. Mary E. ISHMAEL is the daughter of the above Benjamin Franklin ISHMAEL and his first wife Mary Ann CLEVENGER. George MARTIN is a brother to the above Rosannah and Elizabeth MARTIN ISHMAEL. In the 1880 Census, I have found the ISHMAEL's living in Marion Township, Grundy County, Missouri and George MARTIN living in Caldwell County, Missouri. I hope this connects with someone! Thanks, Debbie gdkats@aol.com
Olin Howard Niccum, son of Charles Austin Niccum and Huldah Brantley, was born in Mercer County, Missouri, and died in Trenton, Grundy County about 1992. I am interested in anyone connected with the Wadsworth family, who settled in Northern Missouri about 1860-70. His grandparents were James Brantley and Amanda Maggie Wadsworth. Where is he buried and who was his wife? Any information will be very much appreciated. Mildred Patterson Flick
