Since you are searching the Social Security Death Index, you assume they died after the 1960s. If that is the case, you might try requesting death certificates for both of them. They are all stored at the state vital records department after about the 1910s. It helps to have the date and place of death but sometimes they can find it without that information if you can provide enough other details such as spouses name, possible place of death, parent's names, etc. This helps to match what their records show so they are sure they have the right person.
