I wrote to the Recorder of Deeds in Springfield requesting a copy of a marriage license located in Book C Page 51 1866. My check was returned stating no record of the license was found. Is there any other place I could write to get a copy, or should I write them again and ask for a recheck? OGS transcribed the records. Any suggestions?? Susan
The Recorder of Deeds records land records. You probably should have either written to the Greene County Archives or to the County Clerk's office. That is probably why it was returned. Why they couldn't just forward it to the right office is probably just laziness. You might go to www.greenecountymo.org to find out exactly what records are kept where. I think, though, that marriage records are probably stored at the archives. --- DrkRaven79@aol.com wrote: > I wrote to the Recorder of Deeds in Springfield > requesting a copy of a > marriage license located in Book C Page 51 1866. We recently found that some of our family members are buried at Maple Cemetery, Grant & Grand. When we went to Spfd. last month, we couldn't find their graves & there is no place in which to look-up where they are buried. Can you tell me where we need to go to find out which blk they're buried in? THANKS! Dana
