Montgomery. According to his death certificate and his military records he was born July 29, 1834 in Lawrence Co., TN. The census records of later years indicate that his father was born in Tennessee and that his mother was born in Georgia; however, there is also an indication that his mother was born in North Carolina and Tennesse. I believe that his she is listed in the 1860 Greene County Mo Census with Thomas Montgomery. She is listed as E. Montgomery. Peter married Catherine McBee in Polk Co., MO on November 5, 1857. Peter moved to Newton Co., MO in the mid 1860's where his family still lives today. The following family sheet is not verified but was constructed from information that seems to fit. If anyone can add to or correct anything, I would appreciate it.
