Does anyone know of an adoption agency in Springfield in 1930? Thank you Susan Martin
Hi All, I've been off the list for about a year and it's good to be back. I thought I'd post a general query listing my lines as I have found quite a bit of new information recently (see my separate post about my pilgrimmage to Greene Co.). Thanks, John Atchley ----------------------- Sevier Co., TN and Greene Co., MO ATCHLEY Isaac A., DUGGAN, Catherine, DUGGAN, Daniel W. - ca 1860 Isaac A. ATCHLEY (b. 26 Jan., 1836, Sevier Co., TN; d. 18 July, 1911, Greene Co., MO) married Catherine DUGGAN (b. 25 Apr., 1836, TN; d. 26 Oct., 1925, Greene Co., MO). They married in TN and Isaac A. enlisted in M company of the 2nd Tennessee cavalry (formed in Sevier Co.) in 1862. He was discharged in 1865. Between 1870 and 1880 they moved from Sevier Co., TN to Greene Co., MO. Children: Mary E. (b. abt 1859, TN) Susannah (b. abt 1861, TN) Nancy M. (b. abt 1877, TN or MO) Note that the birthplace of the last three children is listed as Tennessee on the 1880 census in Greene Co., Missouri. However, there are some references indicating that Isaac A. moved to Cass Township of Greene Co., Missouri as early as 1871. Isaac A. was a POW during the civil war and drew a disability pension. His widow also drew a pension after his death. I believe that Daniel W. DUGGAN was Catherine's brother and that they were the children of Daniel DUGGAN. Daniel W. also served in M. company of the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry. He apparently never drew a pension but his widow did. I am not certain if he died in the war or after. I am descended from Isaac A. through Isaac Thomas. I have some information on Isaac A. and his family after they moved to Missouri but would welcome more information and contact with other descendents. I am also seeking information on ancestors and siblings of Isaac A. and Catherine. Blount Co., TN and Polk Co., MO ANDERSON ANDERSON, Moses (b. abt 1813, TN) & Rebecca UNKNOWN (b. abt 1815, TN) Children: James (b. abt 1839) John N. (b. 20 May 1841, Blount Co., TN) Amanda (b. abt 1844) Isaac (b. abt 1846) Moses (b. abt 1849) William (b. abt 1852) I believe that there is also another son Calvin, born after the 1860 census. The family moved from Blount Co., TN to Polk Co., MO in 1850 or 1851. I am descended from Moses through John N. I have some information on John N. but little on the rest of the family. I am interested in the ancestors of Moses and Rebecca, as well as contact with other descendents and researchers. TN and Polk Co., MO MITCHELL, HALE MITCHELL, Wesley (b. abt 1810, TN) and Cynthia UNKNOWN (b. abt 1821, TN) Children: Rebecca L. (b. 26 Feb 1850, Polk Co., MO) Rachel (b. abt 1852, probably Polk Co., MO) This family moved to Polk Co. MO from TN sometime before February of 1850. By 1860 Cynthia is remarried to Samuel HALE and has born him one child, Mary (b. abt 1857). This appears to be a second marriage for both Cynthia and Samuel (he has an older daughter). I don't know if Wesley has died or if he and Cynthia were divorced. Rebecca L. marries John N. ANDERSON in Polk Co. on 1 Nov. 1866 and they name their first daughter Rachel, apparently after her sister. They move to Greene Co. prior to 1870. I am descended through their second daughter, Rebecca A. "Retha" and Isaac Thomas ATCHLEY (see Sevier Co., TN and Greene Co., MO). With the exception of Rebecca I have little information on this family. I am interested in any information, particularly on the origins of Wesley MITCHELL and Cynthia UNKNOWN. (Note, there do not appear to be any Maples, Longs, or Lindseys in my direct line but these families are closely allied with the Atchleys and it seems impossible to research one without stumbling over the others. There are some marriages between Atchleys and Lindseys, Maples, and Longs but it appears that these families migrated in a cluster even when direct relationships can't be shown. The early part of Rose Hill cemetery near Willard, in Greene Co., MO illustrates this very well.)
