1. [MOGreene] WISEnut Search Engine
2. WISEnut Search Engine New Internet search engines are appearing all the time. For genealogists, another excellent new search engine is WISEnut at http://www.wisenut.com/ . WISEnut claims to have approximately 1.5 billion Web pages indexed and is robust enough to quickly search them and produce excellent and categorized results. By entering your ancestor's name, all in lower case and enclosed in quotation marks, WISEnut will search its massive index and present you with what it logically believes the most germane matches are. If WISEnut finds enough matches, it also presents results in what is called WISEguide categories. Each category will be titled, followed with a number enclosed in parentheses indicating the number of links in the category. WISEguide categories allow you easy access to logically grouped materials. This is a nice addition to the collection of search engines available to help the genealogical researcher.

1. Re: [MOGreene] Read The Back of The Tombstone
2. Janet- I note that you are researching the Dodson surname. In our family files is Myrtle Dodson, born about 1898, who married Oliver Horace Price (his Price family is one I actively research). I have names of Myrtle's mother and father and her siblings-and the names of Myrtle's children with Price-and the names of three grandchildren. Is she one of your Dodsons, and would you have more information on her descendants that you might share? -I should communicate with you on the Wood surname at some point, too- that name is in our files, as well. -Becky (Chandler) Aldridge

1. [MOGreene] Read The Back of The Tombstone
2. Read the Back of the Tombstone When conducting on-site cemetery research, be sure to read the entire tombstone. Not everything on a tombstone is carved on the front. It is not unusual to find inscriptions on both the front and back of a stone, and even on the edges. You may find the name and vital date on the face, an epitaph or poem on the back, the names of spouse, parents, children, and other information carved elsewhere. Look for initials, names, and/or the company name of the stonemason on the stone. Often the carver chiseled his mark into a stone as a form of advertisement. You may be able to research the carver and therefore locate other records concerning the person who ordered and paid for the tombstone, its date of installation, and other data.
