    3. Hi Greene County list! There was a lady by the name of Darlene who offered lookups when she was going to the library there in Springfield a few weeks ago. She sent me a copy of a city director I had requested and I did not get to thank her because I deleted her email & she did not put her return address for me to send a thank you note. Darlene, Thank you for contributing to the list by offering lookups for those who cannot be there. Thanks a million for sending a copy of that city directory in the mail. Your kindness is most appreciated! Vicki Houston TX

Thanks so much for the map. Isn't the internet wonderful?! I got curious about Garroute when I came across a reference to it in a family I'm researching. I had not heard of it before. I appreciate your pinning down the location. I don't know that my family actually lived there, but probably lived in the area. I think they were in Greene County and Lawrence County most of their lives. The man's name was Jonathan Franklin Stogsdill (1855-1916). He was the son of Josiah and Lydia Stogsdill. Like his father, and three of his brothers, Jonathan was a part-time minister in the Baptist Church. I have information that indicates that the Hopewell Church at Garoutte is one of the churches where he preached. I don't know whether or not he was THE minister of the church, or whether he just occasionally preached there. Thought it would be interesting to try to find out. The 1883 History of Greene County lists the ministers at Hopewell up to the point the history was published, and there is no Stogsdill in the list, but Jonathan could ! have been there after the history was published. I also don't know where Jonathan Stogsdill was buried. I'm guessing it was in Greene County, but it could have been in Lawrence County. His widow was living with a daughter (Pearl Agan/Egan) in Vineyard Township of Lawrence County in 1920. Thanks again for the help.
