I am trying to locate satellite families of the above names. Garton's came to Greene Co, MO from Dickson Co, TN & Maury Co, TN. They were James C Garton, wife: Annie Teresa Powers. They came from Ripley Co, MO. But James C. Garton was orginally from Dickson Co, TN. His Uncles came to Greene Co, MO ca 1855. There was Jacob Wisdom Garton Sr. (bn 1822) wife: Penelope Elizabeth Rainey, Philip Garton (bn 1822), wife Christiana Hoffman. Jacob & Philip were triplets. Their brother George apparently moved to Ripley Co, MO. Sheedy's & Gorman/O'Gorman came to Greene Co, MO ca 1880. They worked for the railroad and owned farms in Greene Co, MO. The Sheedy family were very prominent in Greene Co,MO. The family was from Co Clare, Ireland. Loyd/Lloyd's came to Greene Co, MO from Scott Co, KY. Manluis B. Loyd was the settler in Greene Co, MO about 1870. He owned a large farm. He was md to Martha Pence, who also came from Scott Co, KY but they both had moved to Platte Co, MO before moving to Greene Co. The Pence family had moved to Platte Co, ca 1850 and so had Manluis B. Loyd. I would give more info but it is long. If anyone can help me with the extened families I would appreciate it. Mona in FtW/Dallas, TX
Thanks, Linda. I think you just sent me some information I do not have in my files. Will have to check later today. Thought it was time, again, to send out a general query and see if someone found anything new. Gotta do that occasionally, you know. Thanks again, Cousin. Hello Nelda Huffman here and I am looking up these names. This is my Husband BJ's family I am new to the MOGREENE-L. His dad is Wilbur H. Huffman married to Lucy (Jane) Beatrice Cook and his grandparents are William Glenn Huffman and Ethel Elizabeth Huffman and his mom's parents are Joseph Albert Cook and Mamie Ellen Essary and then Mamie's were James Essary and Susan Lela Belle and Joseph's parents were Joseph Wesley Cook and Rebecca Belle. We haven't any dates but this is what my mother in law wrote in our family bible 34 years ago after BJ and I got married. My mother in law passed away in 1982 and my father in law has remarried since. My husband says he believes the Belle's were sisters or related somehow. That is all we know so far as I am just getting started on his side, as I have been working on my side of the family which is Bridegroom, Uhter, Mayfield and O Hennon. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You Nelda ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hi Ed, We've corresponded before, so I'm posting this just for general information. I am the gg granddaughter of Nancy Jane Floyd, a sibling of your ancestor. I suppose your's was Mary Elizabeth Floyd, who married a Wallace. Their father was Ash Peter Floyd, who had land grants in Calloway Co, MO, and in Lawrence Co, MO. Ash Peter Floyd was born in Beaufort Co, NC, in 1804. His parents were Ann Bonner and Peter Floyd. There is a will on record in Beaufort Co, NC, which documents this. The Bonners were quite an important family there, and Peter Floyd seems to have been an important landowner also. I haven't traced the connection further, but there is a historic, visitable "Bonner house" in Bath, NC, the oldest town in North Carolina. At least two Bonners from Beaufort Co, NC, commanded troops in the Revolutionary War. Ash Peter Floyd is buried in the Kelley Cemetery near Ash Grove. His second wife, Delilah ? was living with my gg grandparents in the 1870 or 1880 census. I'm not sure where she was buried. You can find Ash Peter Floyd in the 1850 Lawrence Co, MO, census, under the name, "Asher Floyd." My gg grandfather, Young Waddle and his wife, Nancy Jane Floyd, were living nearby, probably on Ash Peter's land. Young's brother, David, was living there as well. I'm looking for any information about John Hopkins, b. KY, married to Martha ? (maybe Wilson.) He was a wagoner in the 1850 census. In 1860, Martha had her own land grant in Dade County. They had six children, 3 girls and 3 boys. I know what happened to the male children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Henry C. Hopkins, a Methodist circuit rider. I'm looking for the girls. And any information about John Hopkins ancestry. Linda
I am looking for any and all Wallace or Floyd surnames in or near the Ash Grove area. Thanks. Ed Crabtree - KCMO familyhistorian@kc.rr.com (previously ewcrabtree@prodigy.net) http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/r/a/Edward-W-Crabtree-MO/

Sorry I've not replied back on this...I've been sick with a cold & you all know how it is when your sick. Yes Carolyn the post office is still in use at Turners. I went to Spfd. in Aug. for a visit. (We live in Iowa now) I had the best ole time sandwich there! The grocery store is still there & now they have a little place in back to eat. The room in back I believe the lady we talked to said, was a hardware or feed store way back when. I did take some pics of it & Turners Creek & plan to go back to get more. I didn't get any this trip of the inside as they got busy with the lunch crowd. My g-grandfather, William Nunn lived & died there & I'd like to get pics of his place too. Turners is putting out a book on the History of Turners Sta. & it's families. Also they were supposed to have some kind of history days there I think the lady we talked to said abt. Oct. 9th. I wish we could be there for that. It sounded like it will be alot of fun. With ole time music & all. Galloway will also be doing a booklet on the History of Galloway. So they are needing whatever info/pics also. I think they will begin working on this after their Christmas Open House Nov. 1st-3rd. This will be their 23rd year for the open house. I also took pics of Galloway while we were there & I'll be going back to get more. In the meantime...I'm trying to gather what I have here & what pics of families of Galloway to add to the booklet. I know I found somewhere on the net abt. who Galloway was named after a couple of years ago but now I don't know where it is. So if anyone knows the url for that, or have that info, please let me know. Dana Carolyn Caplinger wrote: > There is a small grocery store or something in Turners > Station. James and Martha Russell came to Greene County about 1843 from Giles County, TN. They had a farm in Washington Township and raised nine children who married into the Samuel, Flow, Everly, Felton, Pickel, and Rogers families. Many are buried in Dodson Cemetery in Clay Township. Elaine Russell Coffman Dallas, TX
I agree with Carolyn. There's so many little towns near Spfd. Battlefield, Brookline, Galloway, Turners Station, Nixa, Ozark, Linden Lure, Elwood, just to name a few. It would sure help us who know the Spfd. area to help others out if you know what town or at least the area surrounding Spfd. Any clues as to where near Spfd? (I've had bad experiences with "roll calls"): But I think it might be time for a roll callish sort of thing. *However*, please do not put "roll call" in the subject line (useless); surnames of interest make a good subject line. <g> But how about folks piping up with what surnames and/or persons they're researching in the county, with dates (specific or vague, whatever you have) and township if you know it? --pig, admin

Check with the Greene County History Museum in Springfield. They have a lot of photos that people don't even know exist. If they don't have it, it is possible that there isn't one still existing. --- Lecowood@aol.com wrote: > Thanks Andrew, I could have been wrong about the > connections of Richard > Owens, and Bud Dean, I was like about 10 or 12 years > old, but I do know they > were related. Thanks Andrew, I could have been wrong about the connections of Richard Owens, and Bud Dean, I was like about 10 or 12 years old, but I do know they were related. I probably have a wierd request, but i'm looking for someone that might have a picture of the old Plano Gas Station, while it was still in operation.
Plano was on old Hwy. 66
