May 19 1888 Saturday Rode up to Darlington on the morning train to make inquiries concerning their school for the coming year. Returned on the local, reaching McFall before noon. May 25 1888 Friday Closed my nineteenth term of school. Several visitors were present. Mrs. Walters' room had closing exercises. Owing to the measles, the attendance toward the close of the school was light. May 27, 1888 Sunday Spent Saturday in packing up our household goods. A very heavy rain fall during the day. Minnie and Dell left for Stanberry on the morning train and I left for Maysville on the evening local, getting as far as Gallatin Crossing where I spent the night. Took the morning express for Maysville. June 28, 1888 Tuesday Commenced invoicing the hardware stock of A. Beardry at Amity, MO whom Edward and I bought out. Finished the invoice on Saturday. Invoice amounted to $28.25 00/100. Minnie and the children came down from Stanberry on the previous Monday, coming by rail by way of Gallatin. July 4, 1888 Wednesday Spent the Fourth in the store while my family were at home on the farm. ++++++++++ A newspaper clipping titled "School Report" is pasted to this page. Miss Lucy Mitchell is listed as teacher for the primary department. Her avg. daily attendance was 36, with 77 being enrolled. Total enrollment was 193 for all three departments. Twenty four pupils paid tuition which totaled $92.25.
